Cargo Netting Hook

Today I went to the garden centre to get a bag of deer feed. I unhooked the cargo net and when the guy tossed the bag into the rear he hit the top hook that the cargo net latches onto....breaking it into several pieces (it is plastic). The guy realized what he had done and apologized several times but made no offer to pay for damages. I didn't think it could cost too much so I didn't force the issue but after driving away thought better of it and headed right over to the Ford dealer to find out how much it was going to cost to repair. Needless to say I was flabbergasted. The piece that was broken cannot be replaced on its own. It is housed inside a rectangular piece of plastic in the side panel but that piece cannot be ordered on its own either. Instead the entire side panel has to be replaced...at a cost of $700 just for that part!!! Plus the additional cost for labour. Absolutely ridiculous. What a racket Lincoln/Ford has going on. Anyway I called the Garden Centre and talked to the guy in charge as the owner is in Florida on holiday until March 21. He called the owner and then called me back. Nothing is going to happen now until the owner returns. I sure hope they are going to pay for the damage.

I know that is ridiculous. Imagine the owner when he finds out, I am sure, like you, he will be flabbergasted. I was.

Garage
This is when having an engineering buddy or hobbyist with a 3D printer comes to the rescue.

Parts can be printed in many basic colors made of ABS which while not as robust as an injection molded part sure beats the $700 robbery.
If you don't know anyone with such skills try Craig's List or visit a local hobby shop that sells the printers. They may know of an individual who would be willing to help.

I got the written estimate from the dealer today....just over $1000 including parts, labour and tax! I might have to go on Judge Judy if the store refuses to pay.

I'd say now that once you get booked on Judge Judy; let us know so we can watch!~ the owner is going to fight, no offense, but I know I would, and it is not your fault it's just a ridiculous amount that the dealer quoted, a head scratcher I say..keep us posted!

Yes that's the diagram I saw when the parts manager at the dealer was looking for the part.

After reading this I removed my cargo net and only plan to connect it when I really need it. Don't want the hooks to break.

I've had a cargo net for my 2013 RAV4 and in almost four years have never used it. The only thing I could see using it for is to hold in beach balls, basketballs, etc. and they aren't on my cargo list. I doubt I will use the one on my MKC when it comes.
