I calculate my own mileage every time I fill up the tank rather than rely on what the MKC tells me. I just got home last night after a 2800 km road trip through Ontario, MN, WI and MI. For the most part my highway speed was between 105-110 kmh and I averaged around 30 mpg. As an example, I filled the tank in Ashland, WI and when I arrived in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, the fuel gauge needle was on E with it telling me I had 40 KM to empty. The low fuel warning had come on twice :-) The distance driven was 600 km (372 miles) and to fill the tank took 13.27 US gals (50.16 litres or 11.02 imperial gallons) for an average mpg of 28 if using US gals or 34 if using imperial gals in the calculation.

First fill up and mileage report

Fuel economy gauge showed 21.7 MPG. Filled up when I first picked up vehicle. The first 60 miles was freeway (75-80 mph) balance was in town (mostly stop and go) average trip no longer than 10-12 miles. Quite happy with that amount. First oil change coming up in about 300 miles.

Just returned from a trip from S California thru the Central Coast area and the wine/redwoods country above San Francisco.
Drive consisted of freeway, Hwy 1 thru Big Sur to SF and quite a bit of backroad areas in Sonoma county.
Total of 1367 mi with an avg 26.8 mpg - 4 adults and a full baggage area.
Everyone was comfortable and the some-times heard complaint about the small gas tank proved to not be a problem.
Don't know about others but after 3+ hrs on the road a bio or stretch break is welcome in our group.
Car has been problem free thru first 7.5k miles, wife loves it!

Returned from our first nice long road trip! 2160 miles total, about 200 city driving, the rest a mix of freeway driving, divided highway driving and 2 lane roads. Freeway average speed was 80 mph, rest in the 75 mph range.

Total MPG 24.2

We averaged 26 MPG for the first 300 miles as we were leaving New Mexico and higher elevations into Texas, then it slowly decreased to the 24.2 where it remained. I was hoping for a bit better mileage overall. Though it was nice to have the MKC instead of our previous road car, it averaged about 25-26 mpg but required premium fuel. So the trip was less expensive. I hope it is still breaking in and the mpg will increase to what some of the other members have been reporting.

I have 7,500 miles on mine and it get avg. of 21.7 mpg. I will add that I think the range is pathetic on the MKC. A little over 300 mi. on a full tank usually; doesn't get me very far before I'm looking for a station.

We took our 1st long road trip last week, MI to NC to NJ to MI, 1800 miles. 25.3 MPG, 75 to 80 MPH, some heavy downpours slowed things down. Very satisfied. EPA numbers are spot on.

It's a good idea to keep tabs on your mileage so that you can better manage your finances. It's actually quite easy to manage driving behaviour such that you keep those figures looking good. It also helps you to spot when there are any unexpected fluctuations - it could be indication to change up equipment to get your better numbers back.

I got my '17 AWD Reserve two weeks ago. It has the 2.3L engine. The car was delivered with a full tank of gas. Don't know what grade the dealer put in. I just filled it up and averaged just over 20mpg for my first tank. I drove easy and hard, in drive and sport, and city and highway. Once I get 1000 miles on it, I'll change the oil to a full synthetic and try to get more accurate mileage figures. I will always use 93 octane to get the maximum performance of the 2.3. The biggest reason I upgraded from my Titanium Escape was for the bigger engine. I want all the performance I can get!
