Intermittent Passenger Air Bag Sensor

My wife who is petite, but is safely over the minimum weight requirement is having problems riding in the passenger seat and having the air bag light stay on. Dealer thought it was the seat bladder and replaced that after 4 days, but on return the symptom was even worse. Did anyone have similar problems?
I'm thinking the problem might be with a pressure sensor upstream of the bladder. The MKC is back at the dealer for another diagnostic on it. Not thrilled with them disassembling the seat again as the leather is getting soiled from the technicians.

Hopefully someone else has had this problem and could identify the fix that worked for them.

First, it helps if you state what year your MKC is.
My wife is also light and we have not seen this issue.
Likely that sensor is at the root of the problem, but I would insist the tech uses work gloves when taking the upholstery off.
That is just sad workmanship.

The sensor is usually in the seat base which is replaceable. The part is pricey.

Happened once to us while my 130lb daughter sat in seat. Turned off the car and restarted and it corrected itself.

Lots of unexceptable issues with this vehicle.
I have the 2017 2.0 MKC

Good luck to you.

Thanks.

The MKC is still at the dealer. They replaced the "bladder"once already which I'm told is a complete unit that measures the pressure and outputs an electrical signal for the computer to read. They say there is nothing else to replace and have reached out to Lincoln corporate for help.

Today's report is that there is an engineer who they will be consulting with that is in the "area". They have the MKC and we have a loaner car (a base model MKX, so not as sweet a ride) so we're not rushing them.

Did note that after the first "module/bladder" replacement the condition was noticeably worse/more easily reproduced. The dealer has also been having trouble getting staff who weigh less than 135 pounds to test the car. Works fine at 165 pounds. My wife thinks the answer is for her to eat more ice cream.

I haven't called corporate or the concierge. Does anybody think that is worth while or should I just let the dealership do their thing?

Long story short, for anyone else that has to go through this.
Dealer kept my car to troubleshoot for 2 weeks + (we had an MKX loaner from enterprise, so not too bad but base model). Eventually dealer gave up and wanted us to take the car back unrepaired! (What is my wife supposed to do, sit in the back all the time?)

I called the concierge who was very nice. Following day I get a call from the dealer saying that they were removing an entire seat from a new vehicle on their lot to put into ours, and they would eventually be receiving a replacement seat for their now very rare 3 passenger MKC.

Checked the replacement seat with various weights including lighter weights repeatedly and now the air bag light works properly. Woo hoo!

So don't settle if your vehicle is truly not working properly, and only give the dealer a short time to resolve things themselves before escalating.

The complexities of electronic parts is just stretching the envelope past the point of "replace only" as an option for a through repair.....I'm sure both dealer and Lincoln understand the legal ramifications if, god forbid, you were in an accident and the passenger side airbags did not deploy, resulting in injury!
Glad to hear they did the logical thing and replace the entire seat assembly for you.
