CAT Failure

We've had our MKC 2 yrs this past Nov 28th
Going out to dinner this week wife mentioned how we've had virtually no problems with the car. Commented I agreed and that after only 18.5K miles we shouldn't have many issues.
Car must have heard us as upon leaving the restaurant we got a check engine light.

Took it to the dealer yesterday and they diagnosed a Catalytic Converter failure. Warrantee repair of course and just picked it up - all is well.

First time I've ever experienced such a failure after owning many cars with CAT's with many more miles.
Anyone else experienced such a failure, particularly with low mileage

Not a cat failure, but many other. You are lucky that's your only issue. If you have a '15, you also should have had your modem and door latches replaced?

Lucky for sure if you have a '15. I've had the modem replaced twice and still am waiting for parts for the door latches....been over a year since I received the notice for them. I know they are fixing the MKC's in warmer climates first but waiting a year for replacement parts is ridiculous.

What's up with the modem replacement?

How would we know if if needed to be replaced?

If the phone app to remotely start the car, lock the doors, etc. does not work, or you get a connection failure then the modem probably needs to be replaced. The wireless network that the phone app and modem used originally was de-commissioned and upgraded and consequently the modems had to be replaced.

Guess that's why we don't if our modem is bad....never tried the phone app to start the car. Actually, never knew it existed.

I believe only the MKCs with the Reserve trim level have the modems. The phone app can start/stop the car, lock/unlock the doors. You can also set up a start schedule if you want the car to start at a certain time every day, etc. It also tells you where the car is located, monitors the tire pressure, oil life and provides any recall notices, etc.

Mine was replaced when I purchsed the car used. It gets used every day and is flawless. Range is great!!
