Lincoln MKC Among Vehicles Recalled By Ford, Most in Canada

Last week Ford issued a recall that affects a number of different models, including the Lincoln MKC. The other affected vehicles are the Explorer, the Transit van, and the F-650 and F-750 trucks.

The Explorer and MKC are being recalled due to an issue with the engine-block heater. When the vehicle is parked and the heater is plugged-in, the unit can overheat, possibly causing an engine fire. Ford knows of two such fires, but no resulting injuries. Most of the 3,129 affected MKCs and 2,407 Explorers were sold in Canada from 2015 to 2016. Dealers will replace the engine-block heater, and the cord if necessary, with a different design. This affects only vehicles with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine.

The Transit van is being recalled due to its side curtain airbags, which may have been installed incorrectly, and the 2015 and 2016 F-650 and F-750 are being recalled due to incorrectly manufactured parking-brake clips.

As stated in another post, MKCs destined for delivery in several northern US states and Canada ship with an engine-block heater probably for the Turbo in very cold weather.

I just got notified that the new cord for the block heater has arrived. I have an appointment on May 10 to have the work done. The service person tells me that the block heater is not being replaced...only the cord. Even though it gets very cold here in the winter I don't use the block heater as I park the car in the garage which is insulated but not heated.

I dropped the car off at the Ford dealer on my way into work. They are doing the recall for the block heater issue, fixing the clip on the driver seat that holds the leather in place (did not fasten it properly when they did the heated seated TSB) as well as a full detail inside and out due to my complaint when I found grease marks on the door panel and door sill the last time I had the car in to have the modem replaced.

I picked the car up at noon. They replaced the block heater and not the cord. They did a great job of washing and detailing the car inside and out as well. After I left the dealership I noticed that they had not repaired the leather on the driver seat so I had to turn around and take it back. The service advisor claimed they did not know about it! Huh? I had them confirm what work they were doing when I dropped it off. They got one of the technicians to look at it right away and fortunately he was able to fix it in a couple of minutes. Hopefully I don't have to make any more visits to the dealer for awhile.
