North American International Auto Show in Detroit
I am a car dork. I went to the NAIAS today. Here are my thoughts...
Best brand new car- Lincoln Continental. I expected it to be larger, but I think I was thinking about Conti's of old. Still the most impressive new car; the interior even more so than the exterior.
Best refresh- Ford Fusion.
Best Concept- Buick Avista. They need to build this car and call it Riviera.
Best seats- Nissan Maxima. Super adjustable and super supportive.
Best display area- Lincoln. The Lincoln logo shaped lattice and the cream and cherry wood floor were beautiful. The Black Label room was nice and felt super fancy and elegant. The entire display made it seem special.
Worst display area- Toyota. No or low platforms with cars crammed into rows on carpet. Blech. Looked like an auto show pic from 25 years ago. And the lighting was so bright, i think my transitions lenses were turning.
Worst lighting- FCA- Chrysler/Fiat/Dodge/Ram/Alfa. The lights changed with the sound effects. Sometimes it was so dark it was hard to see the cars. My eyes were constantly adjusting. Maybe I am getting to be an old and cranky man.
Biggest disappointment- BMW. I couldn't tell many of them apart. Most seem way over priced. Maybe I would have to drive one to be fair. Runner up- Lexus. See description for BMW.
Fiat 500x- not as gimmicky as it looks in pictures. Nicely done interior.
Genesis G90- I felt like I just won the Apprentice.
Interior of the Kia Optima- Very premium. I love diamond stitched leather.
Buick Envision- looked premium and European. Right-size.
Chevy Malibu- nicely done. Attractive. Take the best styling cues from Optima and Chrysler 200. Fantastic interior.
Honda Civic- larger than expected. Nice interior. More of a compact+.
Best looking models- FCA.
Best looking product specialist- Nissan.
Worst product specialist for a thousand reasons- Cadillac. This guy was Beverly Leslie. He had snow white hair. He had the ever so 1970's pinky ring. Come on, Cadillac. You've come so far shedding the old man car image. Why the regression?
Most annoying models/product specialists - Lincoln. They were loud and laughing with the public like they were at a loud bar.
Most ashy/ dry kneed model- I don't remember the car she was in front of because all I kept thinking is how bad she needed some CeraVe and how much those knees must hurt!
Complete Snooze fest- completely.
Honorable mentions, just random cars I liked-
Honda Fit- so big for a little car.
Nissan Maxima- I like this car. A lot.
Alfa Romeo Giulia- I love saying Quadrifoglio.
Fiat 124 Spider
Audi A3, A4, Q5
Chrysler 200- very premium interior, esp for the segment.
Lincoln MKZ 2017 refresh
