My $48,000 beta-testing of the MKC continues....

Yesterday I drove it 180 miles to visit a friend. It sat overnight and when I got in it this afternoon, the A-C was broken. I found that if the A-C was set on "MAX" it would blow out some slightly cool air to get the temp down to 90-95 F or so. The outside temp read 108 F so I guess I was lucky to be able to get the car home. The dealer can get it in Monday, but a car w/o A-C in Tucson in the summer is the same as no car. ONLY 1800 miles on this car

As a follow up to my XM radio issues from 2 weeks ago. The dealer did the service bulletin reset so at least it doesn't read "no signal" all the time. But it still cuts out at traffic cam/radar intersections in town. The dealer drove it around and agrees. This is the receiver being overloaded, simply bad design.

The dealer got it in Monday AM and the air conditioning compressor had gone out after only 3 WEEKS and had to be replaced. Very worrisome, in the desert the A-C is run to the max for 6 months a year. I hope it is not under-engineered to the task. It broke after its first 3 hour road trip in 105 F heat.

While the technician was working on the car some kind of gasket was seen to be leaking,
that part was ordered and came in late today. So another day or so in the shop.

At least I have a free loaner vehicle. Maybe I paid for it, maybe it came with the vehicle.

Got the MKC back just now....

The coolant system was found to be only half full, the compressor burned out, the compressor assembly was replaced. No further explanations.

While the mechanic was fixing the A-C, something called the CV boot was noticed to be leaking grease. The "boot assembly" was on back order with no firm date of availability, so the entire right front axle assembly was replaced (!)

So I'm hoping for the best for the next 100K miles. I'm glad I bought the super maximum cover everything extended service contract!

It must be the A/C refrigerant. The 2 page repair summary is out in the car, but it says something like: pressure low at "////", system recharged to "////", still no A-C, compressor unit replaced, A-C working properly. No word on why the A/C refrigerant was low, the service person that reviewed the summary with me said maybe it came from the factory that way (?)

If there is a leak I will know soon, we have another month of 90 F high temp days here.
