HI I'm new to this forum. did some searching thru this forum and didn't find any threads on this issue...

I'm going to replace the factory speakers with JL Audio component speakers. However, I can't find anywhere in the owners manual if my car has a Premium or THX factory sound system. (I do have the center channel and rear sub)

My Issue: When I removed the Driver side front & rear door woofers, the factory harness has 4 leads connected to it. I'm assuming that 2 leads are for the +/- for the woofer and the other are for the in-line Tweeter. I can't find the FSM for this car online without having to pay for it. Does anyone know where I can find the FSM? It would help out a great deal. I called Crutchfield and even they couldn't confirm the wire color code with their database due to discrepancy from what they had in their system vs what my car has. Hence, getting that FSM will help out.

Also, I do have a sub in the rear and haven't gotten a chance to remove the panels yet but from reading some of the threads I believe there is a stock amp. I might replace with after market products but that will be at a later date and different thread.

If you have THX then there will be a small plaque with THX written on it on the centre speaker on the dashboard

That's what I thought but I don't have that THX badge anywhere on the center speaker or console or any door panels for the woofers. I don't know anywhere else to confirm the type of factory system I have

mkc619:

If you have the rear sub-woofer you have the standard ("premium") system. You can go to the Ford/Lincoln parts site and see the components this system uses.

Are there any DIY'ers here that would know where to find the repair manual online? Free would be nice... Does this forum have a section for DIY'ers? I haven't seen one, was just curious. Even tho this car is still young in age, I like to do a lot of repairs that can save me money.

I suggest you contact Crutchfield they are the most knowledgeable in this area.

I have contacted Crutchfield. I purchased my component speakers thru them and asked them if they code identify the color code for the speakers and even they couldn't confirm the color codes. I even sent them pics of my speaker connection along with the color of speaker wires the MKC has and none of their documentation didn't match with what my car had. We were both at a standstill as to how else to get a repair manual to confirm the color code

Your best bet is to look at the colors of your wires (either out of the amp in back, or coming into the speaker). Jot them down. Then, start searching other Lincoln/Ford forums (Escape, MKZ, etc.) -- where there are more enthusiasts. Good chances are, Ford keeps the same colors among many vehicles. I've found this true in the past. Another thing you could do, is the 9V battery test on an OE speaker:

Don't expect miracles by simply swapping speakers. Changes are the OE amp is internally crossed over at different frequencies than your aftermarket components spec.

Thanks for the info kkreit. I will do some research under some ford forums.. hopefully I can find something under there.

That was my next idea to test each lead by 9v battery. If the amp doesn't provide the sound I want then that will be my next step on replacing.
