Backup Camera Slow death

My 2015 backup camera has had an increasing failure rate- now 75% of the time it gives a jangly unreadable image, or it just blanks with the dreaded "See your Dealer"
I did, and apparently they want $725++ for this replacment. (Never was even medium-resolution on a good day)

Has anyone pulled a used camera and installed it with success?
Can a 2017 or later one fit and deliver a better image or is it all screen dependent?
(Yes this is a Synch 2 vehicle)

Still rolling strong at 99,300 mi...........

I thought I read someone did replace theirs. Sounded like there was a lot of disassembling to get to it. Youtube might have a video.
I've got an extra camera laying around, they're not too bad to put in yourself, I don't know about the MKC but the Ford flex has had considerable issues with the cameras, I have a fleet of flexes and have replaced all cameras on my second generation flexes. Unfortunately a MKC and flex camera aren't the same

My backup camera has also started to blank out or just present a "poor reception" image at times. I've seen on youtube some "fixes" concerning the ground wire on Fords. Have you had/fixed any issues with your camera ground? I've inspected it from the camera all the way up to the port hole by the lift gate hinge.

Do you know where the ground goes from there?

Thanks!

What I am hearing though this sounds like my cameras on my Flexes when they failed. Pretty sure it is a bad camera. Sorry!

I had same issue a couple of years ago. You may have done it already, but I liberally sprayed and cleaned the pin and socket wiring connectors in the camera connection blocks in the rear door with Deoxit electronics connection cleaner spray. Camera has worked fine ever since. Good luck.

I had same problem and finally resolved it by updating my Sync 2 to current version 3.1. Too bad there isn't a single post anywhere online that suggests this! My backup camera works beautifully now!
