Has anyone ever installed any of the 3M Clear film on the front of a new car?

I looked at a couple YouTube videos,

I'm not sure I want to tackle it.

I also wonder how well it holds up in the real world.

I drive from Ohio to Florida a couple of times a year, it would be nice to make the clean up of love bugs easier.

I did it and it was easy. I do it on all my bicycles as well. Dish soap, water and a little patience. Saves your hood.

I've seen and was thinking of getting the color matching version for a car I use to have.
In short it's not a bad idea if you're a frequent highway driver.

I dont do much highway driving, but there is a limestone gravel pit about 10 miles west of me and another one about 10 miles east of me.
So much gravel hauling around here,
and
I live in an area of 4 rivers, Cumberland, Ohio, TN, and Mississippi rivers.

Can you imagine what the BUG density is like here at night.....:eek

I am also looking ing Sonus Ion coating/sealant.
Looks good also.

After researching all the info I can ,
I went ahead and ordered this product.....Sonus In Coating,

Will be applying it as soon as I can, and will give a report.

If I'm not happy with it, I will be going with the 3M Clear Bra protective film.

seems like apples and oranges from what you asked about, let us know how it works. A co-worker has the film on his CTS-V and it works very well.

Yeah, I suppose it is ....one is easy apply and the other is more difficult.

I'm pretty old and somewhat handicapped in my ability to do some things,
so I go easy first....:wink

I read that this Ion coating really gives good protection,
I'm guessing that it would not deflect small stones or rocks,
But , will keep bug acid (which is a big concern) from leaving permanent marks in the paint,
and makes it easy for bug removal , and has UV protection.

I'm gonna give it a try, but may also try the 3M film later.

Well I just recieved the Sonus Ion yesterday, and haven't, had a chance to apply it yet,

I hope to give it a try here in the next few days,
Ya know us old retired folks, just stay too busy .

I will definitely post up what I think about it, as far as application process, and immediate rusults, like shedding water, anf brillance.

Then it will just be a wait and see for durability and how well it protects against bug acid.

I do not have any expectations as far as gravel or sand damage.
But I have read a lot about this product and am anxious to give it a try , if for nothing more than a good UV and bird poop protection, and great shine.

Sorry,
I am chompin at the bit, to get this applied to my car,
But,
the weather has turned on me and I can't function in this extreme heat and humidity,
I'm not real healthy.

So , I promise , as soon as the temps settle down, I will get the job done, and report back.

OK, yesterday was a nice day , weather wise.
So I gave the car a really good bath, useing 2 buckets, and a a microfiber mitt, with Meguiars car wash soap.

I finally got the chance to apply the Sonus Ion sealant/coating to my MKC.
Using the sponge applicator that came with the product.

Easy application..took me a total of 30 minutes to cover the entire car except for the wheels.
Trick is to let it set (for absorbtion) for at least 30 mnutes.
I let it set for an hour, and wiped it off using microfiber towels,
Extremely easy to wipe off. Buffing not necessary.

The finish is very glossy, and very slick.
Reflections from trees, sky , house etc,..very shiny, like a mirror.

Parked it in the garage overnite and applied a second coat this morning and included the wheels this time.
Instructions say that it takes 4 hrs for it to cure and become very deep shine.
I'm betting that this would REALLY be outstanding on a dark color car.
I will try some on my black truck.

All I can tell ya is, it is VERY brillant shiny, and super slick finish.
I will try to report back after a while to let yall know how it sheds water and rejects dirt and bugs.

I'm happy at this point. Believe I will still apply the 3M clear shield protective film to front of car.,

Oh , btw, I only used about 1 ounce of the product, as it really goes a long way.
