My 2015 Reserve has an occasional glitch that has showed up maybe 3 times in the last year while running A/C auto:
After restarting, despite what the settings are set to on the control, the drivers side will go to max heat and crank the fan all the way. The passenger side center vent and corner vent stay on commanded temp.

Tried cycling the Climate control ON/OFF with the power button. Nope. Also tried running to MAX COOL. Nope.

But when I pushed the heat in both zones as high as allowed, I found that as I backed down, the driver's side once again followed commands. Hard to noodle out whether this is a sensor, wiring, or software logic problem.

I don't think there is any point going to a dealer until it is permanently malfunctioning, but I will probably swing into the lot with my shirt off..........

Thought I would share.

I had this issue a week or 2 ago, heat came on blaring although my climate temp was set to low; pretty much did the same random troubleshoot steps hoping it would reset, not sure exactly what it was i did that worked but i think i set the heat all the way up then back down, turned off & restarted the fan, after whuch it worked properly ever since. Going to inquire about it at next scheduled service

I had the same thing happen but only 1 time. I shut the car off and a few hours later it was back to normal. More gremlins.

I think the buttons are tied in with Sync system so it could be that. See if there is a update for your Sync. It might help. (or it might make things worse... it's my understanding it's programmed by Microsoft)

Thanks for sharing your experience. i have 2018 MKZ which, when set to Auto and 70 degrees (both sides), one day it just started blowing nothing but hot air at the highest fan speed. Raising or lowering the temperature setting didn't change anything unless I turned it down to the LO setting, at which time it started blowing cold air at full fan speed. Then I happened to find your post, and tried running the temperature up to the highest setting, then back to the 70 degree setting and it started working normally again. Apparently, that does some kind of reset. Good to know.
