Many of you may have remembered the story of woe with my 2015 MKC. After over 42 days in service, 6 different visits and as the final straw the drivers side air bag deploying while in my garage, NOT even started... (tearing up my face in the process) Lincoln saw there way into taking care of me and the MKC.

Needless to say I have spent the last two months driving every vehicle under the sun, spending lots of time playing with Tech, features etc. I have driven XC60, XC90, X3, X5, Q5, Q7, A6, Toureg, Q50, ATS, CTS, SRX, NX, GS350, IS350, RC350, GLA250, GLA45, F150, Escape, Edge, Buick, Chrysler 300, Grand Cherokee Summit and Limited Cherokee.... LOL. For those non believers, I have kept all the Bluetooth profiles on my phone. Was very close to an X5 purchase... but just can't get past the lack of remote start on Audi, Benz and BMW.. heck for the matter Infiniti. And yes, you see in my list... cars not just SUVs... to get the features I had in the MKC, I was considering cars like the CTS, GS-350 etc.

I came full circle back to Ford and was heavily considering a Sport Edge or a Platinum F150. But thought I HAD to wait for Sync3. My local dealer has a couple of 2016 Escapes with Sync3. So the other day I sat for about 40 minutes playing with it. My take away??? Its not worth waiting for compared to MFT. Is it faster? Yes without a doubt. Is there better integration... sure, in the Escape... for example, when you adjust the temp, it pops up on the Sync screen to show you. Yes... Pandora integration is better then MFT... but I still have to have it running on my phone... booooo. And guess what? In all my farting around with it... I got the screen to hang, not refreshing the current artist playing. At the end of the day... all the menus are just like MFT, just in different graphics and fonts. I am not sure I really think it looks better. It just works faster and the screen allows more gesture type control.

So in my case... the change was not "good enough" to justify waiting until Jan or Feb for a 2016 Sport Edge or even probably Nov or Dec for a 2016 F150 (to have Sync3). So then I started thinking more about the MKX. It would have ALL the features I want. MORE features then the CTS or GS350. Better performance, potentially, and I still retain a hitch where I could not have one (easily) on the CTS, GS350 or even Sport Edge.

So last Friday I ordered a 2016 MKX Reserve, completely loaded. I know it won't have Sync3... but after my 40 mins of playing... I am fine with that. I have had MFT since it first came out and had Sync well before that. Been driving Fords for over 30 years now. My previous vehicle before the MKC was a 2012 Edge Limited, a 2009 Edge Limited before that... my Wife is in a 2013 Escape Titanium... so again lots of experience with MFT and Sync.

Many might ask why not just get another MKC, heck I could have a 2016 with Sync3 even. Well lets just say I am a bit gun shy about another MKC. But trust me, I very well know it was just my "luck of the draw". I could have had the same experience with any of the many vehicles I listed above. Lincoln did what was right and took care of me very well. Had this not been the case, I doubt I would have even been considering another Ford product of any type.

Since I know this is a MKC specific forum... let me tell you, of ALL the vehicles I tested... very few were really a good replacement for even the MKC. I wanted the features, the luxury, the performance and frankly did not want to pay $80K to get it all. I am happy to compare or contrast any of the vehicles on my list if anyone is on the fence about a MKC vs. any of them.

Attached are some photos you might enjoy. ;)

See you on the MKX forums.

Congrats on having Ford/Lincoln take care of you. I would like to think otherwise, but I tend to think that your injury might have had something to do with their response as other MKC owners have not been as lucky as you (mayday and mmoretti).

What are the specifics on your new ride?

Wow! Glad you are (basically) OK.

Thanks for posting, especially the graphic pics. After seeing that I will most definitely not let my 5 year old "pretend" to drive my MKC in the garage. Never even imagined that could happen, we let him do it in all of our cars. i know it's extremely rare but it's good for those with little ones to think twice about letting them do it after seeing this.

I'm glad to hear that your situation has been satisfactorily resolved and as a Ford investor, I'm happy to see that the customer comes first. And talk about test driving everything! LOL

While you've got an 2016 MKX on order, remember it's just a bigger MKC, so please stop by to compare and contrast your MKX with the good parts of your MKC experience.

Hi All... thanks for the kind comments. Yes... I do think the Airbag injury pushed my case over the edge. They originally were trying to assess a usage fee, based on mileage etc. that was all waived as well.

I chose the Luxe Metallic color with Ebony interior and the Sonata Spin Aluminum trim. I went all out, pretty much every option I could put on it are there... except the all weather floor mats as I prefer WeathTechs. Well I guess I did not get the rear DVD or inflatable rear belts as I don't have kids. I MSRP'd just a few dollars over $63K.

Now I just have to wait :( Maybe the build fairy will bless me with a quick build time.
