Hi everyone,

This issue is regarding my Mom's 2015 MKC with 30000 miles.

The other day we remote started our car, got in, and pressed start like normal. But, instead of a tri-tone Lincoln chime inviting us, a Ford chime did instead. We thought this was very odd as earlier it was playing a different chime.

This isn't a very big issue, but we wanted to know if anyone else out there had this.

Thanks!

This vehicle has many chimes for sure. (Parking brake, setting seat presets, headlights, seat belts).
I have noticed there is a different chime for belts on my 2015 under some conditions (~1% of the car entries) but I did not pay enough attention to what triggered the shift.
No battery issues here though.

Hi there - any update to this issue?
My mom's 2015 Lincoln MKC started playing Ford chimes intermittently after a remote start, and now it plays Ford chimes almost exclusively.
The MKC chimes are melodious, polyphonic, and play over the car stereo system. The Ford chimes are monophonic, and play from the instrument cluster speaker (turn signal speaker).
The dealer attempted to reprogram the instrument cluster to no avail.
The dealer has told me that different chimes don't exist for the MKC.
Frustrating.

Yesterday I noticed my MKC started playing different chimes as well. When I shift into R and back out of the garage, the obstruction sensors are not the same sound any more. When I open the driver door with the car running, the warning sound has changed also. My MKC has 29,000 km. It is going in for an oil change in 2 weeks so I am going to ask the dealer about it then.

Well wouldn't you know it....yesterday all the chimes reverted back to the way they are supposed to sound and of course my appointment to get this checked out is on Thurs.

YES! I noticed this about a year into my ownership experience. It would start when I used the remote start and selected a gear to drive. It would give the Ford chime and not the Lincoln chime. Then it gradually started doing it more. I took it to the dealership with 40k miles and they informed me it was because the battery was bad. I was like...I don't notice any issues with trying to start the SUV or retaining accessory power. It just makes a different chime. They replaced the battery with a brand new one under warranty.

I can't help but think something else is wrong and this will happen again. And then, they're not going to replace the battery. I have a CPO with a 6yr 100k mile warranty...but still.

Hi everyone, greetings from Shanghai, China.

I have a 2015 MKC. In the past two years, the chime change happened twice or three times but was back to normal on the next day. However, in the past 4 weeks, the odd chime ("mechanical" and through dashboard speaker/instrument panel only) happened each time i pressed start. The local dealer here in Shanghai has done the following things:(1) replacement of the battery; (2) replacement of the stereo system; (3) reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module; and (4) reprogramming the Audio Control Module. But the odd chime still exists.

Did anyone fix this issue?? Thanks.

Yes I had the issue fixed. There are 2 modules in the rear driver side door that need to be replaced. These modules also control the welcome lighting which cause the battery to be drained and when the battery gets low, the chimes revert to the basic sound.

Hey Sean!

I'm in Shenzhen until Sunday and will be flying back up to Hangzhou for the next two weeks.

Funny I didn't see your MKC when I left Pudong on the 11th... :)

Thanks mate. I will try this approach with the dealer. But honestly speaking, according to my knowledge, this issue seems irrelevant to the battery. My dealer did some tests on my MKC. The battery status was good when the issue occurred. Anyhow, I will try this approach.

Thanks again.

Wow,
Glad I'm not the only one. I swear I did a search for this once and never found this thread. I've had the same thing happen 2-3 times over the past year. I didn't think it was a Ford chime (I had a Mustang before this car). To me, it just sounded like the older Lincoln chime, which was still present on the 2016 Navigator I got as a loaner and on my mother in law's 2014 MKT. I went through all the menus and my owner's manual trying to find some sort of control over the chime and never found any.

I'm not having the Chimes Change issue, my chimes for the rear hatch just periodically don't work - nothing - the hatch opens and/or closes, no sound at all, it's been doing this off and on for the last year, and of course, never does it when it's been to the dealer - but this particular MKC has had a "Quirky" (for lack of better word) rear hatch since it was new, it would randomly open, no key fob near it, kick to open was sporadic, then it got out of alignment - now all of those "quirks" have either been addressed or worked themselves out, now the chimes randomly don't play - Dealer called about 2 weeks ago, taking them up on the turn it in 3 months early, getting an MKZ with the 3.0 V6 - I think that should be a blast to drive.

Hi Countryguy, any more details about the 2 modules? The local dealer said no such modules in the rear driver side door:eek But, turning off the welcome lighting is the solution to this issue.

Sorry but I don't have any more info about the modules. I do know that replacing them fixed the problem and I still have my welcome lighting turned on so turning off the lighting is not the preferable solution in my opinion.
