Droning sound

Our MKC with the 2.3 engine has been giving off a droning sort of sound when mildly accelerating and decelerating, usually in the 2500 rpm range, although sometimes in the lower rpm ranges. It sounds like it's coming from underneath the car around where an automatic shifter column would be located if it did not have the push button shifter. Of course when I took the service manager out for a ride, it didn't happen as it does appear to come and go. The car now has about 8,000 km or 5000 miles. The shifter buttons have been re-arranged being an early production model and it's been in for servicing the front seat heaters as per the recent TSB on two separate occasions for a total of 5 days and still not rectified. We moved over from BMW to Lincoln....we may have made a mistake. Would like to hear if anybody has had a similar problem with the droning noise. I note that there is another thread that details a more clicking or harsh noise but I think we're dealing with something different. All comments appreciated.

Have you by any chance contacted Lincoln to see what they have to say/do about it?
I know with new vehicles like this at times they have to send out engineers to diagnose issues.
It's going back in for heated front seat servicing once they get some more parts in along with oil & filter. The sound is now becoming more constant and hopefully the service manager will be able to experience it himself within the next few weeks. Still curious if we're the only ones who have this issue.
Same droning sound

Yes I too have the same issue. Extremely loud!!! I am going to have it in next week. Will keep you posted
I had this issue when I first got the car. Had 1,500 miles maybe even less and now it's back. Last time they replaced bearings and the left center arm. Had the car for three days. I will let you know if it's the same issue.
Yes the dealer fixed this issue for me but now it's back. Making another appointment to have this corrected along with the Sirius fix. I will report back on their findings.
Glad I found this forum - we bought our MKC in May. For the past 2 months we've had the droning sound at about 50 mph. It will slow with deceleration and can not be heard down at 40 mph. Also can not be heard above 60 mph very well. The noise was not there when we bought the car, but 5000 miles later it appears. Took it to local Ford dealership - had it a day - claimed nothing was wrong with the car. Took it today to original Lincoln dealership hoping for something better. Same thing - nothing wrong. The service mechanic told my husband that they will not tear the car apart without more information on "the problem". He tried to sell my husband on the fact that it drives differently because it is a front wheel drive - not true. I've driven a front wheel drive before and never heard the humming drone sound. It's a light sound but I can feel a slight vibration with the droning on the driver's floorboard. We waited a long time to buy a 'nice' car but we're ready to trade it for something without the droning hum. Oh - brakes have a high pitched squeal when tapped at a slow speed, like coming to a stop. All the mechanics will say is there is nothing wrong and plenty of brake pad left. What horrible advertisement for a Lincoln. People turn and look when your in the aisle looking for a parking spot and the brakes start squealing. Ba hum bug.

For those with the droning sound, by any chance do you have the factory installed trailer hitch? Or any other hitch?

If it is a problem that can be recorded by your phone, that would help the service people. I could never get a problem to replicate after taking it in, so I just recorded it on my phone as it happened and played it back for the service manager. That led them to the problem.
Has the service tech heard the droning sound or the squeal sound?
I see the OP refers to a 2.3l. Is everyone having this on an AWD vehicle? My 2002 CR-V is AWD as well and for the past 5-6 years (about the time it became a spare car) it's made a speed dependent drone. When I took it in, after years of ignoring it, they diagnosed it as a bearing in the driveshaft going to the rear wheels. Said it would not be a difficult fix but I could wait until it got more annoying.
