There is a small fan that is under the floor right behind the rear driver side passenger seat. It is on top of the amplifier for the audio system. It comes off and on an it needs to. At least it does on my MKC, that is probably the fan you are hearing. If you don't have the heated or cooled seats turned on, as there is a fan sound with those too, it is most likely the amplifier fan.

What's the fan noise you hear from the inside rear of the car, its intermittent?

Ah ha! That would explain why when I turned the radio down all the way, the fan noise went away. Thank you. I can hear the fan from the cooled seats and knew it was a different one I was hearing. I know my Equinox had some sort of fan that ran after the car shut off, I think to remove any moisture from the AC (?) but that was in the front.There is a small fan that is under the floor right behind the rear driver side passenger seat. Is that fan with THX audio or all systems ?
