The Super Bowl is not going to be marked with many auto ads this year -- a marked change from what was the case last year. Ford and Lincoln have said that they won't be running commercials at this year's game, and this puts the brands in the same camp as Volkswagen and Jaguar, which are also not running commercials for the 2015 Super Bowl.

Last year there were a lot of automotive Super Bowl commercials, so this year will be quite a bit different. 11 automakers ran commercials during the 2014 Super Bowl. So far only 6 of those automakers have booked spots for 2015: BMW, Kia, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan Toyota.

I'm especially surprised Lincoln won't be participating since they have had such success with their ads with Matthew McConaughey in it.

LOL.

I really don't think money is the issue. Between the recent funds they have invested and the fact that they are owned by Ford, I'm sure a Super Bowl ad isn't much to them. I think it is more so that they don't have a brand new vehicle that they are launching around now.

Super Bowl is not their target audience nor their demographic. Ford, yes. Lincoln, no. After the Jimmy Fallon fiasco 2 years ago, I'm glad they are not trying another stunt like that. Shot the MKZ launch in the foot with that one.
