Globally Open Windows Remotely

Our new MKC was parked outdoors over the weekend. We returned to it 24 hrs later and were shocked to discover all four windows all the way down!! After cleaning up a covering of snow and some ice inside the vehicle (!), we guessed a button was unknowingly depressed on the remote and consulted the owner's manual for a cause. Here's what we found...

You can open the windows only for a short time after you unlock your vehicle with the remote control. After you unlock your vehicle, press and hold the remote control unlock button to open the windows. Release the button once movement starts. Press the lock or unlock button to stop movement.

Globally opening windows remotely is not a feature we would want activated, and was not referenced in the "Remote" section of the owner's manual. We had to look up "Windows" after the problem occurred to determine if this action could be initiated by the remote. We promptly disabled it through "Settings/Vehicle/Windows/Remote" on the Information Display (table beginning around page 112 or 113). It would have been helpful if there was one place in the manual that strictly lists every function the remote can perform, and their "programmability" (is that a word?)

Hope this helps other owners avoid a similar experience.

A lot of cars with remotes have had this features for 15+years. I know all of the BMW's and MB's I've owned do. You can't disable it on those cars either. Never had an issue where the windows were unintentionally opened on any of them.

The nice part is you actually *can* disable it on the MKC through the Information Display - "Settings/Vehicle/Windows/Remote."
Thanks for the heads up jetsfan. A very good idea to disable that feature for several reasons i.e. weather and theft potential.
Had this on my Lincoln LS and loved it. Got the heat out of the car PDQ. But a dump of snow and ice does not sound too good.........
A very basic question to the engineers at Lincoln:
If say, Im in England, and my MKC is parked somewhere in Canada, why would I have the sudden need/urge to open the windows of my locked up garaged MKC from across the pond? What...to air it out?... so the kids can retrieve the $20.00 they dropped on the C's floor?...or maybe you have a soft spot for ALL auto thieves, and trying to make it a little easier, I mean god forbid they have to break a window first to get to that $20.00!!!!!!!!
Rant over, stay calm and continue on! lol

Where do I find a remote that can open the windows of my MKC here when I'm in Germany? It must have a big battery and antenna!

What, 5.0 Candy??...you open/close the windows with the keyfob. Pretty hard to do that from "across the pond". LOL

The phone app will lock/unlock the car from anywhere with a cellular connection (prob N. America only...not sure), but it can't open the windows.
