How does the AWD system work in theses cars?

Can someone explain how the AWD system in my 2017 MKC 2.3 AWD works. I've had two all wheel drive vehicles in the past and and had a good grasp on how they worked. Haven't seen any good info on this. TIA

This was released in 2016 and may vary according to model year and trim level. Your OWNERS MANUAL should also have a description of the system.
