Is something wrong with our MKC?

12592 Views 27 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  blankster
We've owned our MKC for just over two months now. But it seems that we're having a different ownership experience than others here.

We've not had any problems with...

the transmission or shifting, including the paddle shifter
the engine making funny noises or droning
the Sirius radio service
the vehicle leaking water
the seats heating or cooling
the navigation system
the welcome mat
air leaks or whistles
or anything else for that matter.

We thought we heard a sloshing noise one time from the fuel tank as we backed out from the garage, but we simply turned up the THX audio system and it was gone!

There are without a doubt some design issues that we don't particularly like, but our experience with our MKC has been excellent to date.

It seems unlikely that we own the only MKC that Lincoln made with no problems, but at times we're wondering whether we are a rare breed or just lucky. For those that are having problems, we're sorry for your trouble and sincerely hope that they get addressed to your satisfaction.

Same here, no issues. Like many on the site and many who don't come to the forum. I would bet most registered members here are enthusiastic owners, car nerds, OR, had and issue and drilled around the internet to see what they could find out. So the great silent majority probably has no reason to come by here.
Regardless, it is fun to see what folks do to personalize this neat little CUV. And see the stories of those dealing with problems.
Re-booting a brand is a real hard thing to do, but this model should really boost them along.

Hey ColdH2O,
Although I've chimed in a few time pertaining to various posts, I have very little to complain about on my MKC! As "midnight cruiser' alluded to, the vast majority of happy owners don't participate in forums. I must admit that I get great entertainment reading much of the comments, even laughing at times! My wife doesn't understand the allure of this forum (entertainment?).
Even after a fairly serious rear end collision, my car is excellent! I'm always looking for reasons to drive it and consequently wife's 2014 MKZ stays in the garage a lot!
This past week I retired after 37 years in real estate and I am planning some great driving trips in my very cool ride! Stay tuned!

Its so great for all of you who don't have any issues with their car. For those of us who do I don't find it something to laugh at or entertaining to you. If it were your car I am sure you would not be laughing.

I get what you say about people "over-complaining" about what you may feel is a minor or non issue.

Maybe you don't listen to SIRIUS radio or mostly drive where its not affected(me) or maybe you have a base model with different options where certain things don't affect you. Every one, Every car is different.
Some of the things happening to the cars are more than just minor issues...the MKC with the massive leak is one of the worst to pop up yet, even worse than my rocks in my doors and underneath the car.

Yes, overall the car has some issues, its first year production car. It would be nice if it were perfect but its not. That's OK, few cars are.

I find it pretty insensitive to those with actual issues with their cars to call it laughable, and then gloat how your car is perfect. But good for you, seriously! Just try to be more sensitive to those who spent a lot of money and have a lot of problems, it does happen.

I think for the most part the car is OK and most importantly not un-safe. So far the issues reported are not safety or real engine problems issues (which would be most concerning to me) and the ones that do have them are just a handful (unlucky for us). B

But great for all of you who are enjoying your vehicles without any issues!

We're not trying to minimize the severity or magnitude of your problems or those of the other posters, it was our observation that we were not sharing in those problems. We wondered whether we were alone in being free from problems and the replies have confirmed that we are not. Moreover, we clearly stated the following in the post:

"For those that are having problems, we're sorry for your trouble and sincerely hope that they get addressed to your satisfaction."

FYI - we have the Sirius radio on all the time and very familiar with this service as we have it in both of our vehicles and in our home. There is nothing unusual about the reception in our MKC.

Note that we did not mention your rocks issue - we believe that to be a real impediment to your enjoyment of the MKC. It might be that the MKC is not adequately suited for your application in this case, and that another higher clearance vehicle might be more appropriate.

Mmoretti,
I would hope that it was obvious that I never intended my post to be personally directed at any one person or their problems. I apologize if you took this personally but I can't aplogize for voicing my enjoyment of my MKC. This is a public forum and at times I am entertained by people and their comments, never by their problems. Gloat? Insensitive? You have no idea what kind of person I am - quite the contrary.
Personally, I let my Sirius subscription expire because I have tons of my own music on an iPod as well as my phone. I'm a news junkie and get my fill with local radio. I love the TravelLink which is free for 6 years - I'm happy with that.
I truly am sorry if you were offended!

its the laughable and entertainment quotes that I felt were inappropriate.

As far as my rock problem..I understand I have not posted ALL of the info, but if you go back and read it all I most certainly describe my "application" as you say..

My "application" is driving my son to school on a county road 35-45 MPH, and driving to the supermarket again on county highway max of 50MPH, like all of my friends/neighbors.

Where do you think I live? The TUNDRA? I live in rural NJ, seriously. You must work for the dealership or Ford because that's the same lame excuse they try to give (my driving conditions) even though all of my other cars could handle these "terrible conditions" without rocks in the doors or the entire sides and back wheels damaged.

My neighborhood and town has SIGNIFICANTLY nicer cars than this Lincoln MKC I promise, and MUCH lower to the ground. Mercedes sedans, Audi sedans, convertibles, ALL TYPES and NONE get rocks in the doors or have sustained any damage remotely close to what has happened to my car, and in less than 5K miles. My friend bought a Q5 two years ago, 27K miles now, black like my car (which will show any mark). We follow each other taking our kids to school everyday. We laugh that we are following each other when we end up at the supermarket together. And her car is practically perfect. The wheels aren't damaged, her paint isn't damage, her bottom panels (Audis don't have cheap plastic on the bottom) aren't pummeled or chipped! Neither is my husbands Ford escape, My parents Hyundai Sonata, not our neighbors Mercedes CL coupe, not the neighbors Audi convertible. Sorry, its that simple for me.

And if it is the MKC design perhaps they should not sell $49K cars to people that live in NJ if the cars will depreciate that rapidly.

Do you think I need some type of special vehicle to drive where I live? Now THAT''S laughable...

Be happy you have no problems with your vehicle and leave it at that, try not to be so insensitive and ignorant until you know all the facts...

ColdH20, it was the posts by Bruce that I found insensitive because of the wording he chose to use, then he again made comments about my "application" of driving as the issue with my rock problem when he knows nothing about it directly.

There have been a few things I've seen people complain about the MKC here that to me are a non-issue, but that's me. Everyone is entitled to what they feel is acceptable. I actually do have the whistle noise from my mirror some reported and at first I thought they were a little over zealous, but I'm not calling that person out minimizing it for them. In my situation I listen to the radio a lot or have young son in the car talking nonstop so to me, not a big deal and I will deal with it. They do not want to deal with it and they shouldn't be "laughed at" or used as someone's entertainment because of it.

Same with SIRIUS, I thought people were over blowing it (because I mostly drive where I am NOT affected) As soon as I began driving in a different area weekly I immediately noticed it and was glad I never doubted anyone. And if that's where I drove everyday I would be very upset at this point too. Not only the annoyance factor :) but people pay money for their subscriptions.

I have NEVER participated in forums before because there are people on a lot of them who have nothing better to do but lie, incite fights, and generally troll about. I have a first year production model of a car that unfortunately for me has issues and during my search for answers I found this forum. I haven't even posted all of it(problems) because I honestly have not wanted to bash the car.

I have to say this forum has been very respectful for the most part and more importantly VERY HELPFUL, at least to me, which is why I continue to stay and participate and help if I can. If you have a dealer that is not reputable and/or knowledgeable it gives us an option to hear from others with other experiences. And it has given me "fire power" when I go into a dealer that wants to deny all problems. Had I not been here and gotten the TSB for the heated/cooled seats (which I promise you is an issue for many) my dealer would probably have never addressed it for me.

I am hoping people stay respectful and helpful and remember everyone's car and experiences are different and respond accordingly. If you can help great, but if you're only here to bash or get some type of entertainment off of people's misery than please go somewhere else :)

mmoretti,
With all due respect, you've got your culprits mixed up. Here is my last apologetic post to you. I never commented on your rock issues and I meant my sincere apologies about my comments. They were never intended to be insensitive or mean spirited:

Bruce if it wasn't you I apologize. SOMEONE Absolutely did post something that commented about my "application" of driving the MKC and specifically that I should get a vehicle with perhaps more ground clearance. IGNORANCE.

I wouldn't have taken the time to reply. When I responded to make them look stupid they deleted it. If it wasn't you then why doesn't the person who posted it to begin with stand up and not hide.

This is the type of forum cr*p I can't be bothered with. People posted things to incite a reaction, then hide from it.

Whoever wants to comment and question my problems with my car don't hide. Post what you want respectfully and I will set you straight.
Other than a horrific buying experience and the radio reception issue (which my dealer should be correcting with a new antenna tomorrow), I have had no complaints about my car. I'm enjoying driving it and am pleased with the ride, mileage and build quality.

Thanks for weighing in bobroden. We're glad to hear that you're enjoying your MKC and that you'll soon get your radio problems resolved.
Even with that "list" of issues I don't feel its bad at all for a first year production model. Maybe my expectations are low :)

And I don't believe there is anyone who has ALL the issues listed either, and only a few with more serious or "unique" problems. They are mostly inconvenience things and although annoying (to some more than others) I am glad that so far there has been no major mechanical or safety issues which to me would be more concerning.

If I were considering cars and saw that list of problems I don't think it would discourage me from buying the car. If we looked up other models we would probably find similar things, no car is perfect.

This upcoming year should be one to watch as I am FINALLY seeing some other MKC's out there (and I live in a very populated area-mostly MB,BMW, AUDI, and LR around me). And the first ones sold are coming up on their first year and probably 10+K miles depending upon their driving so let's hope our issues stay to just these few as we move into more driving and more MKC's out there!

I mentioned the same thing in another thread, but I've got 12,000 miles on my MKC and it's been in the shop once for an oil change and to have the heated seat TSB done, as well as a weird issue with the ambient lights in the passenger's side door panel being inoperative. Each time I've had it in I've been treated like gold and supplied with a loaner. We love our Lincoln. We prefer taking it on road trips instead of my F-150. It's just a dream on the highway and gobbles up 90mph like nothing.

MKC will be a year old 7/31. 11,000 miles. Only problem was a hiccup between 2nd & 3rd shifts. Not serious just annoying. Ford replaced some sensors on first try. That didn't work so next time they replaced the torque converter. Working perfectly now.

What was the mileage when you first noticed the problem?

TIA
What type of hiccup? I notice a lag at slow speeds. Not a show stopper but annoying and noticeable.
My MKC is a year old today and I am pleased! I look for reasons to drive it and always volunteer to be the transportation for my grandkids! Never having owned a turbocharged car before, I've had to learn the "lag" characteristics when mashing the accelerator - and there is noticeable lag at times. Other than that, I have been very happy. I have 9,100 miles, average around 25 mpg and have had no problems. So far, a happy camper.
FYI, I installed an after-market "Draw-tite" hitch on my MKC primarily for a hitch-mounted bike rack. The installation went well and it looks like a factory installed hitch other than the fact it's below the silver panel versus "through the panel". The hatch is a little more difficult to open hands-free but I can live with that. I'd suggest getting the OEM hitch if you can.
Not really sure but very early. Have to also realize that I took delivery 7/31/14, which was one of the first.

mmoretti, I also happen to live in rural Ontario.....My immediate street is a gravel road for about 300 meters till I get on a paved 2 lane highway....generally, I drive on the gravel road at quite slow speeds till I get to the paved road....I know flying rocks (granite crushed) can cause serious paint damage to ANY car surface, which is why I expressly tend to take it real slow, but sure to **** know where you're coming from regarding damage to paint and wheels.
I have a 2011 Mustang GTCS, and am extremely careful how I swing out on our gravel road being a rear wheel drive with a 3:73 read drive....as soon as steering turns at the end of my driveway toward north, (sharp left turn) AND a hill to boot, I could feel the rear wheels kicking up rocks....
So far I have zero damage, but AM very aware of the road conditions till I hit the paved road.
There are times when my wife suggests we take "side roads" unpaved as scenic drive to where we are heading, and usually tell her I rather not, explaining the WHY and the issues I could have driving on these type of roads.
I feel your pain,Im sure if the same happened to me, I'd be livid too. Could it be caused maybe by aggressive thread pattern picking up rocks and flinging it into your car/wheel body? You did not mention you spinning wheels or driving aggressive,so Im ruling those out....but something is causing this damage to your car....
it almost sounds like your paint/clear coat is somehow too soft to deflect rocks as they impact, Not sure what is causing these issues with your ride if your not being aggressive with spinning wheels and kicking up stones/rocks, or speeding on these type of roads....I guess we are all trying to understand what the underlying issues might be to cause this type of extensive paint damage to your MKC.
