I looked at a neighbor getting out of a Hyundai at night & when she opened the doors there was a Red Light to show oncoming traffic Her door was open.
Why don't Lincoln have Safety feature's like a Hyundai.
Also would like to see Turn Signals on Mirror's
And they call Lincoln Lurury.

My dad's 1970 Lincoln Continental Mark III had red lights at the bottom of the doors on the inside, such that when the door was opened, oncoming traffic could see the open door. Not sure when that feature got dropped.

My 2015 MKZ has turn signals on the mirrors. I think most new Lincolns do.

I consider my 2016 MKC fairly luxurious for the money. Considering a Jeep Wrangler can be over 50K now!

If your MKC has the Ambient Lighting in the interior (mine is a Reserve level, so it has it...), when you open the door while the engine is running, the lights in the door will change from whichever color you have selected to red. If the ignition is off, the lights in the door default to white light.

Good catch! I'll have to pay attention to mine.

I never noticed the colour change either...will have to check it out.

I think Designr might be referring to turn signals on the mirrors themselves rather than the turn signal that is on the back side of the mirror.

My MKZ does this. I've set my ambient lighting to blue. When a door is opened or ajar and the ignition is on, the ambient lighting on that door will switch to red. And when I stop the car and open the door(s) (or approach the car and open the door), the lighting turns white. I think Lincoln calls this Welcome lighting, and you can turn it on and off in the Settings menu from the steering wheel.

I don't think of it as a safety feature; more of a style or convenience feature that might have an additional safety benefit.

My former 2011 MKZ also had the 7-color ambient lights on the interior, but the ones on the door did not change to red when it was opened. If it were truly a safety feature primarily, I would expect it would be red every time you open the door; not just when the engine is running. For example, when I first enter the car, if the door is still open when I hit the ignition button, the lights on the door momentarily flash red but then turn whatever color I have currently selected for the ambient lighting. Weird. Why wouldn't it stay red as it does if I open a door once the engine is running?

My hunch is that the whole red thing came out of a customer clinic or feedback that something was needed for the open door. It's an evolutionary change in the ambient lighting system from the previous generation to the current one.
