I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy this summer (kept getting iPhone wet) and can't play my music over USB from Apple Music (it's on Android now) or basically any music app on my phone. I can only do it through bluetooth. I really don't like the lag in switching between songs or the lack of song info on the display in the speedo cluster. I've gotten various error messages including the car wouldn't play audio from a protected format. Is the solution just to make sure the music I want to hear is actually downloaded to the device? That's all I can think of. The only music it shows available when I connect it via USB are three audio clips of system sounds.

Yeah yeah. Trust me, I know. Apple finally gets off their butts and makes a water resistant phone after I lose two different iPhones to water damage. I'm sure I will eventually, lol. My wife has a pet peeve about getting "green texts" from me.
