I received an email dated today from Lincoln with the title "Schedule your complimentary modem upgrade. Details inside." The body of the message is:

Your Lincoln needs your attention.
Schedule your modem upgrade.
In January, 2017, the Lincoln embedded modem that connects your vehicle to the MyLincoln Mobile/Lincoln Way app will be disabled. If you currently have this modem, you'll want to schedule the upgade
[sic] at your earliest convenience.

So, looks like yet another modem needs to be installed. Why can't they provide a modem that will continue to work? Why can't they spell "upgrade"?

Anyone else receive this message??

Hopefully, that is just a reminder for the existing recall 15N04 that many of us have already done. In the US, AT&T is discontinuing 2G service at the end of December, 2016. As AT&T is the provider for this service, if you don't upgrade to 3G, the old modem will no longer work. In Canada, Rogers Wireless is the provider, and they will be providing 2G service until at least the end of 2017. So Canadians have a bit more time to upgrade their modems.

My MKC was at the dealership yesterday for regular maintenance and I asked them to perform this upgrade (if they could) while it was there. They new nothing about it. I then contacted Lincoln and they gave me the following information to give to the service technician:


SSM 46155 - Effective Oct 26 2016 2015-2017 MKC/2016 MKX/2015-2017 MKZ - Loss of MyLincoln Mobile (MLM) Remote Features - Equipped with TCU Build on or before 19-Oct-2016


The Service Dept was unable to perform this upgrade and have scheduled it for next week.
While on the phone with the Lincoln Concierge, he mentioned that this was a program change only (not another new modem) to allow remote functions to work with the new My Lincoln app.


I have seen the reviews of the new phone app, and they are not good.

2017 MKC Select - is it equipped with a modem?

I live in Canada and recently purchased 2017 MKC Select AWD with Select Plus package and Climate package. I installed the Lincoln Way app on my phone but the remote features like remote start are not available. Is this means that my car is not equipped with a modem? There is nothing in the vehicle features that specifically state whether it has a modem or not. Also the opening of the tailgate with a kick does not work either. Maybe this is an optional feature I thought is standard?

I'm not sure if Canadian spec cars are any different, in terms of features; but, in U.S. spec MKCs, both the hands-free liftgate and embedded modem are on the Reserve level cars only.
