Odometer Disappearring and Other oddities

Driving home today I've encountered 3 oddball issues. Has anyone else had these problems and are there any TSBs for them?

1. My drove home is 25 km...about half way home the odometer disappeared from the dashboard. I stopped for gas, restarted the car and it appeared again and stayed on the rest of the way home.

2. I stopped and shut the car off, exited and closed the door but did not lock them, ran in and got my mail, about 30 seconds, which I do every day. Got back in the car, shut the door and the horn beeped twice...as it does when I leave the car running and exit the vehicle and shut the door. The outside mirrors then folded in which normally only happens when I exit the car and lock the doors. I did not accidentally touch the fold mirror switch. I started the car and mirrors unfolded.

3. When I got home I parked the car in the garage as per usual, did not lock the doors. When I got out I could hear a sound as if someone was sending morse code....tap tap tap, coming from the engine compartment. I listened for about 30 seconds and then came in the house. I went out about 20 minutes later and the sound had stopped. This is the first time I have ever heard it.

Well that is bizarro. No clue but very interested to hear what others have to say.
#1 Never happened to me
#2 Are you sure you did not leave the car on by mistake when you first got out? Embarrassingly, I have done this by mistake more then once, but each time I had the fob on me and the horn beeps reminded me that the car was still on. I know what you wrote, but is it possible that the car was left on.
#3 . Could it be the hot engine metal parts starting to cool down? If not, here's an interesting one - the C has a sound cancellation feature whereby mostly inaudible noise is purposely fed out of the speakers to help cancel out the outside noise. Don't ask me how it works...one of the forums techies can fill you in. However, on a few occasions I have entered my garage, turn everything off, go into the house - and then a few minutes later opened the rear hatch to either put something in or get something out and I can hear the noise cancellation coming out of the hatch speakers for a few minutes even though the car has been off for at least 5 minutes. It eventually stops.

Now most of my comments probably have been little help to you, but in the 6 months and 6k miles in which I've had my car I've experienced at least 6-10...what I call "glitches" that seem to come and go...most of which never return again. For a premium car these "glitches" are very annoying, but by the time I make my list of things that need to be fixed, I find myself crossing off items because these "glitches " have mostly disappeared. I've never had this happen to me in a new vehicle before and it is a reason why I am not completely satisfied with this car. However, after reading about other peoples experiences, I'm lucky that my "glitches" have mostly gone away leaving me with a short and not terribly troublesome list for my dealer to fix. As this forum has brought to light, the C is a very inconsistent car. The quality control in Louisville must leave something to be desired.

After 2 trips to the dealer in 6 months the only item they have not been able to fix is the cooled/heated front seat backs that do not work. The seat bottoms cool/heat fine, but not the backs. Trip #3 to the dealer to fix it occurs in a couple weeks and they claim that they've done the entire TSB and the car just doesn't push enough air to the seat backs. They will take the seat apart again because after my call to Lincoln, they told the dealer to do the TSB again. I'm not holding my breath for a better result..

Thanks for the comments dk4500.

1. I searched the forum and did find a post by another member where the odometer disappeared and then reappearred after stopping/starting the engine. Very weird. Being in the computer field for 34 years, these kinds of problems drive me nuts as there always has to be a reason. Computers don't just do things at random.

2. I definitely did not leave the car running because when I do, I always hear the horn honk twice. Since I was just running into get my mail, I don't like when the horn honks because it draws attention that I am there :) Also, the horn honked twice after I got back into the car and before I re-started the engine. As well, the mirrors folded in when I got into the car and did NOT lock the doors.

3. I have heard odd ball sounds after shutting off the engine but this was the first time that I ever heard this morse code kind of tapping pattern.

After owning the car for only 6 months, and reading all the odd ball problems that others are having with this car, it really worries me what kind of problems are going to happen once the warranty is over. It could turn out to be a very expensive nightmare.

countryguy, does the tap, tap, tap sound resemble a cooling down manifold,if you know what that sound is?....as you know, this engine is turbo charged and they do run hotter than a non turbo'd engine, when you add the chill cold air to the equation, it could very well be very hot manifold reacting to cold air....I hear this tap tap tap kinda sound on almost all my rides, especially the Mustang and the truck....have not yet heard it in the "C" tho, or at least I'm not aware of it.
Disappearing odometer....that's a new one for me as well....maybe these Lincoln C's are haunted!!!
No, the sound doesn't resemble a cooling down manifold. Yesterday was the first time I have heard it and it wasn't that cold...we've had a lot colder days. I never noticed the sound today.

I definitely think these cars are haunted and I don't even believe in ghosts! LOL
Yesterday problem #2 from my original post happened again on the way home from work. I also got the message 'no key detected' even though it was in my left front pocket as it always is. I took the key out of my pocket and it still took several seconds to recognize it and before I could get the car started. For a couple of seconds I thought I was going to be stranded.

Sometimes you hear the clicking of the "throttle by wire" system recalibrating itself from under the hood after u turn off the engine. My former Edge and now the MKC does this
