I was curious if this is normal or just mine, but has anyone else noticed the roof in vent position is barely even open? It almost seems like it's a small enough venting that it wouldn't do much. When you close the panel from this position it pops open more, but then shuts (of course). If this is normal I want to think it's a safe position based on the potential of carrying a load on the roof, but the fact that it pops open higher when you close from the vent position I think this could be less of a factor.

Thoughts?

I opened mine for the first time today and noticed the same thing - I thought maybe there was a second position higher until it closed right away. Guess it's the way they work - would have liked it to open more. -

Yes, that is correct. Opens around a 1/2” max. In closing the panel raises about 1/4”, drops about one inch and raises about 1/4” to close, the rubber gasket almost seals. Both panels are sound tight, but not a 100% water tight. The inside of that cupped roof liner panel that raises on forward side with the opened vent also doubles as a water shed. Seems the vent could be opened during a rain with no water entering the interior. With the shade fully opened on the Panoramic glass, one could reach up there above the track and clear lube then down to metal water shed and feel some water that has yet to drain from a storm or even a good washing. Water could be on one side and not the other depending on the angle of the vehicle at the time. It is designed this way to provide a buffer of glass to metal. Another note, both those glass panels are a laminated safety glass and should shatter on impact, just like the side windows.

Good to know. I was simply curious and just wanted to make sure. I don't necessarily need it to open more, but I have had many vehicles with sunroofs that would vent in a more open position, so this simply caught my attention. I'm sure it vents just fine. With the number of TSB's (Welcome lighting, heated seats, and the impending SiriusXM) you can't blame me for wondering if there was a flaw. :)

If you're driving and you open the roof vent to the 1/2 mark, there is a pretty strong vacuum sucking air from inside due to different inside/outside pressures, you also want that to happen in a controlled way so the entire cabin air is not pulled out too fast just incase you also have the heat on...you could easily feel it pulling gently on your hair .
