Hello, I'm getting a 2016 MKC early next week when the one with the specs I selected is brought in from a neighboring dealer 70 miles away. I didn't want to pay extra for the 20" rims and went with the standard 18" rims for summer driving. I usually get a second set of rims for the winter with snow tires since I'm up north, so the field is now wide open to buy a second set of anything I want with the money I saved.
The MKC can take 3 options. The rim size is not always related to the width of the tire on other cars, but on this car, you have to go larger rim to get wider tires:
18" rim = 235 wide tire
19" rim = 245 wide tire
20" rim = 255 wide tire
For dedicated snow tires, would it be better to get 235 or 255? I'm only interested in the best traction and utility, not looks.
235 has less surface on the road, but is a narrower tire with more sidewall better when going through snow?
Thanks!
