Personally, I like the difference in contrast on the rear air diffuser. My major gripe about the MKC, in general, is the plastic exterior cladding. I wish Lincoln would have offered it as an option to have it painted the same as the body color or gray for contrast.

I know a lot of other manufacturer's SUVs also have this cladding, but several have gotten away from it the past several years. Volvo no longer has it on the XC60. BMW offers an option to have the plastic painted on the X3. I don't think the Audi Q5 has had it for quite a few years.

I remember when we bought our 2003 Escape I made sure we got the trim level that had the plastic cladding painted.

I do not like the Panel where the tailpipes are.
Couldn't they have painted them to match the Bumper instead of the Gray that stands out.
It doesn't look so bad on the MKC depending on the body color. When the 2013 MKZ came out thats the reason i didn't buy it. I hate the black lower bumpers especially on the MKZ. Most newer cars even imports are black as well.

I think the OP is specifically referring to the silver skid plate in the back. Is it plastic? I just assumed from the pictures it was metal. My issue with it is the skid plate, plastic panel, and body panel are all potentially different colors. Then above that you have a very large set of lights with a giant LINCOLN running across it. It strikes me as busy, but I'll have to see it in person to really judge. I do think it would be better if they offered it in black or body color for the skid plate and plastic panels.

The need for the black lower panels to me starts with the grill. The split wing design is very short, which leaves you with the need to bridge the empty space below it by having a rising element from the bottom. The X3 has a similar issue since the kidney grill is also short, and it has a plastic body panel run very similar to the MKC, but it doesn't seem to come up as high. BMW gives you more options though, so if you get the M-Sport exterior package that gets rid of the plastic entirely.

Thought about that panel as well...if it's all black, there is no separating contrast and that rear bumper becomes a sea of black, visually offsetting the look....the silver adds contrast and actually breaks up the rest of the flow....which to me, makes it nicer visually!
