Just to demonstrate how other applications can impact your cars systems:

Navigation Fault Message Or System Lock Up ? 2016-2017 Ford & Lincoln | ford.oemdtc.com

Bottom line its a far more complicated world out there and a far bigger challenge for the engineers designing these vehicles and the mechanics who maintain them. I bet many a customer became frustrated with Sync 3 repairs that did not get fixed due to an app unrelated to the vehicle.

Sync 3 Upgrade to Apple carplay available later in the year:

The nav system is second rate....at best. ANY in car Garmin is superior to the nav found in the 2016 Lincoln MKC.....basic everyday functions that one would EXPECT to find/have are nowhere to be found; you put in an address you want to go to (and save for future use) the ONLY option to save it is as an address ( example: 2061 lakeshore st W ) you first have to save it in that format, then you have to get back in and find it, then you have to edit it and call it whatever you want it to be ( Wife's work ) With ANY Garmin when you hit save, that feature is immediately offered, as in naming that address....it's so intuitive !! The nav sucks in the MKC.....not impressed one bit.

With Sync 3 and Carplay/Android Auto, any in car GPS becomes obsolete. The fact that phone map apps are more up to date and stay current much faster than in car GPS is one advantage, the other being the simple fact that you can setup directions on your phone before you even sit in the car and it carries along with you. Having an address sent via message and with a tap you are already setting up directions to the location without having to retype into the car etc.

Yes so true. Always arguing with my wife to use waze or phone GPS. We get crossed between the two because she wants to use her cars GPS and it conflicts with what my phone says. Phone is more accurate and up to date. Easier to update apps than car systems.
