I am planning to order a 2017 MKC 2.0T within the next few weeks. My only decision remaining is whether or not to get the Tech Package.

I don't really think I would make much use of the Active Park Assist and I am aware that some people find the Auto Start-Stop annoying. I am retired (mid-60's) so not in any daily commute. However, I would like to have the Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning for road trips - features that are becoming part of the standard equipment on Toyota and other makes.

For those that have the Tech Package - would you spend the money on it again?

Yes I would.. But I would definitely consider 2.3T to get rid of the Auto Start-Stop. ACC has been great, and I would do it again if I had the choice.

I find the tech package very useful for long trips. Also remember you also get the ride control which is very nice even around town and on the highway.

Yes it is worth it, especially for the ride control, radar cruise control is OK, just wish you could adjust the distances more like if you wanted to play NASCAR and get 1" off an bumper, not saying I would set it that low but in North East highway driving the 30 ft minimum setting leaves to much of a gap and people will cut in font of you if you leave that much of a gap.

Also get the 2.3L engine it is also worth it.

From my POV, its a Luxury Car, get everything in it, you won't regret it.

Adaptive cruise is the best. Had it on my 2015 MKC. Could not live without it. Put it on my 2017.

Yes, absolutely. As a semi-retired mid-60's guy, I highly recommend to embrace the technology. Once you have had the adaptive cruise control, you will never go back! That alone is worth the price of the technology package!

I have tech package, like you I don't commute daily. While I think the package is worth the money, it does come up short as the functionality is not as I would expect from a "luxury" auto.

Example, the adaptive cruise only functions until speed drops to 15 MPH. I have a Kia Cadenza where it's adaptive cruise will bring it to a full stop and then accelerate after stopping.

Also, forward collision warning, as I understand it, is only a warning system and will not actually bring vehicle to stop. Other lower priced cars have the ability to stop the vehicle when conditions are warranted.

Active park assist is also half implemented with parallel parking only, other vehicles including some other Ford products, also support reverse perpendicular parking which MKC doesn't. Confused why lower cost Escape offers the reverse perpendicular parking while the MKC doesn't.

The Auto-Start/Stop isn't really annoying. I'd say it's just something that one isn't accustom to. Since vehicle instantly restarts after taking foot of brake I don't really see anything really annoying. You can disable it if you want.

The adaptive cruise on my 2017 MKZ (but not the MKC) offers stop and go. The "stop" is quite nice although the "go" is fairly slow to start and you usually get horns honking at you at a stoplight! Hopefully the tech will make it to the MKC next year. I probably will trade in my 2015 MKC for a 2018 MKC.

As you said, the collision warning doesn't apply the brakes, but it does pre-charge the brakes so your stopping distance is greatly reduced.

The 2017 MKZ has the reverse perpendicular parking - which is a little creepy. The park assist on the parallel parking doesn't bother me, but the reverse perpendicular parking sort of freaks me out! :)

The 2017 MKZ also has something called auto-hold, which you can engage and allows you to take your foot off the brake at a stoplight. As soon as you press the gas, it disengages. I like that alot.

Something else to consider. A few years down the road, you may be looking to sell or trade-in. How much resale value would that technology give you? People are getting more and more into it.Years ago, I would never consider navigation, pano roof or heated seats. Now they are must haves for me. I'm thinking most people in 5 or 10 years will feel the same way about all the safety technology that's available now.
