The car leaks water

Well I haven't seen anyone else post yet but with all the crazy rain we had in Houston and the garage being taken up by a friends car over the weekend we got to find out the MKC leaks.

Wife and I go out to the store in the evening and I say your car smells damp did you drive through standing water this morning? Her reply is no, I feel of the carpet and it's damp and think yeah right, u didn't and yet the carpet is damp. Get home and pull the seat to toss a couple box fans in and find a seam under the seat so pull it back to take a peak and find about 1.5" of water on the floor pan. Pull front carpet out and fold back rear carpet. Toss in a few fans and takes 48hours of non stop fan to get everything dry then put it back together. Take the car for a test drive and make a turn that's when water pours out the dash on the side that had previously been dry and onto my foot. Guess wife was right she didn't drive through water the car just leaks and leaks pretty **** bad.

Guess I'll be calling Lincoln to come get the car Monday and bring me a loaner while they figure out how to fix their problem. Now I have to decide how much bitching I want to do, I really want new foam padding under the carpet cause it took forever to dry but to change it they have to pull the dash and I really don't want them to do that because I will end up with annoying rattles or misaligned parts / broken tabs. Guess I will see what they have to say first....

Holy smokes! I'd make them replace everything! Mold can take over. I had a leak in my back hatch. It wet the carpet and filled my little storage containers on the sides. The leak was fixed (at least it's not collecting there anymore). I've actually been concerned about another leak because when I put my A/C on I smell mustiness like something is or was wet.

Please let us know what dealer says and where your leak is coming from. I want to double check mine.

Hope it gets cleaned up and resolved quickly for you.
Sounds to me like there is a much bigger problem. If the water is in your dash, then that is the equivalent to it being in a flood and the entire electrical system being in question as things continue to dry out and/or cause condensation over everything. I'd be looking at a buy back/lemon law type thing. Good Luck!
My thoughts exactly. I've never heard of water coming out of a dash, I'd be very concerned with that like Bradford said for anything electrical on top of mold. My leak was just in the back and I fortunately caught it the first time I washed the car. They said it was a seal and everything seems fine back there now. I do have concerns about the musty smell when I first turn on my A/C though. Don't notice anything wet down there but maybe I better start looking more after its out in the rain or I wash it :)

Again when you find out I would appreciate it if you share what they tell you the leak is from. Good luck.
I know there's a smoke test dealers do, smoking up the cabin to look for leaks.

Hopefully this isn't a wide spread issue.
It rained today(although it wasn't heavy when we were out) and I checked mine carefully. It looks OK, I think if this were a problem for me or most of us we would all know by now.

Sorry for Mayday, that's not a fun issue to have. Mold is very bad thing for me (myself and son have severe allergies to it) so anything that has to do with leaking/water and the possibility of mold in the car is scary to me. I hope either its something simple they can fix and ensure no mold/damage or they give you a new car. I can understand you not wanting them to rip your dash apart but they are most likely going to have to disassemble it somewhat to troubleshoot and more importantly to make sure nothing is still wet in there. Again good luck.

Thankfully so far it doesn't seem to be a wide-spread issue, can't say i've seen any other reports like this.
Got car back was told they couldn't find any leaks and did water tests and left out in 2 rains. Delivered car back to us stuck my hand under the seat and was wet. Checked driver side even more wet. Told them find the leaj and replace all carpet and padding. Decided to open the hatch for kicks and found this. Told them nevermind in the carpet I'll let lincoln deliver me a 2016 yall can keep this and my wife will just drive the loaner till the 2016 comes in. They were so embarrassed they didn't say anything but we are sorry and will get to working everything right away. Talked to sales guy and he didn't think I was out of line either. Took video of water coming out of side panels and carpet when pushed on. Car is total loss as far as I'm concerned and will accept nothin but a new one.

That said **** happens, not even really mad yet. If lincoln steps up and does what I want I won't ever be mad they try to fight us they will end up in court and my wife will be getting the Porsche Macan she saw after the lincoln and wants. But honestly I expect Lincoln to go above and beyond and make this right .

That is crazy that they tried to give you back the MKC in that condition. Almost seems as if parts were completely forgotten during the build process for you to have water in the front and the back.

Interested to hear how they resolve your issue. Hopefully it's with a new vehicle, otherwise, I'd start the lemon law process pronto on that.

Dealers think people are idiots, since a good portion of customers lack any knowledge. But us being here, we're a special type ;)

Wow mayday... I've been waiting for your update. Can't believe you have that significant of a leak and they brought it back saying "no leak". How could they have missed that! Especially after all the "tests" they performed. Wonder where the leak is from since you've got water up front and in the rear... Hope they get it resolved or give you a new car quickly.
Decisions decsions...

Do we want to wait 6-8 weeks and get a 2016 mkc, Wait 3-5 weeks for 2016 mkx, or accept a 2015 mkc that has the technology package ours doesn't have.

Dealership has left the choice up to us on what we want to do, naturally if we want anything more expensive then what we bought we pay the difference but that's reasonable. I would imagine the 2015 with the technology package they would do even swap for since our exact car doesn't exist on any lots in the country and the one with technology package is closest to exact same car.

Still nervous but I have to say this dealership still impresses me and I hope everything comes out the way I think it will. If so I guess we will be stuck buying lincolns :)

Treat me right you have a customer for life, treat me like **** i'll make everyone switch
Hear you there. WOW! Thats great though that they are giving you so many choices! Sorry you had to go through it but it seems they have been very quick to help you in any way they can. Even going above and giving you multiple options like that. You do have a very serious problem though, I'm so glad you did not have to fight anything. Your wife might be disappointed about no Macan (I'd love one of those too!) but I'd have to say the same thing. Hard to go to another car/company if they take care of you.

Had a chance to see a Macan in person and its impressive. When you get to the rear the 3D tail lights will immediate pull you in :)
Well looks like things arn't going to go as smooth as it sounded.... I love the dealership and they are trying to do everything they can themselves but Lincoln looks like they are going to keep driving their name into the ground.

Dealership basically offered to let us trade the car in then buy a new one. I would take a 5k hit for 5 months of ownership. Then since the exact car we have doesn't exist and the closest thing to it is $3,900 more we would have to pay the invoice of $3,500 more for the car plus the $5k hit. That would put me $8,500 out of pocket plus TTL told them no way no how that I appreciate them doing what they can and taking the $1,600 hit they would be taking it isn't close to fair or reasonable.

From there it was recommended I go through lemon law process that they agree that the right thing to do is refund our money and let us buy another car. They will even answer any questions I need answered and be the best dealership and friend they can for me.

One last shot dealer is trying to take now is to ask Lincoln to give them a credit of $5k to make this right so they would be able to give us all of our money back and keep this out of the courts for Lincoln. My opinion is Lincoln would be idiots for not accepting this as it will cost them $5k even if they were to win plus will seriously piss off a customer and possibly cause the dealership problems with future sales.

I really hope Lincoln is smart and handles this correctly and quickly. If not I will win Lemon law and get back every penny we spent and take those pennys and buy the Porsche. I want to believe in Lincoln, **** I believe in the dealership itself so much I only want to buy from them. But if that means I would be buying and supporting a manufacture that is money hungry and doesn't care about the customer then F that. I don't make enough $$ to support a dealership just because I like them and hate the product they sell.

So come on Lincoln do the right thing so I can give you the praise I really believe you deserve.

I would wait for the 2016 MKC with sync 3 . Plus the 2016 will have most of the bug out of it that the 2015 had. Hopefully you have a vehicle to use while you wait for a 2016?
I had a similar situation with my son's Volvo S40-a chronic leaker. So just to share the leak points I found all over the internet (and yes in this car):
-sunroof drain tubes had pulled out of their fittings at the top A pillar corners on both sides
-passenger rear floor drain plug askew, letting water in from below
-A/C condenser drain tube did not get the water out of the car through the trans floor hump. Fitting was redesigned so I got that one. This could be your dash water.

(As an aside, I pulled all the carpeting and padding and washed it in a mixture of white vinegar and borax in a kiddie pool. Then dried them for a week in the sun, vacuumed them hard, and put it all back together. Six months later, no smell (even my wife's more sensitive nose does not sniff any mildew). But there were a few weeks of vinegary air in there. NO I am not suggesting at all that a new car should need to go through this or that you accept that kind of remediation)
Mayday did they offer you a fix on your car first or is it not fixable?

I can't see how they make you pay for a new car (unless it has added options) if they sold you a car with a problem/defect that cannot be fixed. There should be no "fight" for a lemon law ruling if that's clearly the case.

Now if they want to fix it (in our state lemon law states they get 3 chances to fix same issue) then they get a certain number of "chances" to resolve before you can win a lemon law case.

Keep us updated please. Hope it can get resolved quickly for you.
Lincoln is going to "fix it" by replacing the carpet and putting some silicone in the hole they found. But even though water was coming out of dash when turning corners and if u touched side panels in the rear water poured out they don't plan on doing anything. Didn't even mention cleaning the slime off the panels that I felt it growing on. They say they will close the investigation Monday and let me know the decision. But today listening to them I know the verdict. So Monday I'll be hiring an attorney. Tomorrow the owner of dealership is suppose to call me as well. I really don't want to go the legal route but I will if I have to.

Lincoln has their head so far up their ass for a struggling company it's amazing. $5k to a company like that is about 50cents to someone like you or me. They would rather hold that 50cents and piss me off then spend it and have a happy customer. Unless this turns around and quickly I will make sure no one I know ever buys a ford product again. This whole situation is rediculous....

Worst part is im fair and level headed, still not pissed about the leak at all stuff happens. Pissed at how we are expected to live with a flood damaged car that we bought for full price less than 6 months ago and was flooded because of them.

Good luck and keep us updated. I would be doing exactly what you are. That is just crazy.
