My wife and I have a VW diesel that is going to be bought back by VW. I have driven the Buick Encore, Cadillac XT5, to big, Lexus NX 200t, the Acura RDX, Infinity QX30 and the Audi Q3. Also of course the 17 MKC. I am new to this forum, please bare with me. The MKC seems to have the quality and options I'm looking for. We like the Reserve model w/ white platinum w/hazelnut int., 19"wheels, splash guards, and side window deflectors. After looking at this forum, some posted about 2years ago, have most of the problems been resolved? I was glad to see that you don't have to run premium gas, that would mean $7to $8 more per fill up. If anyone has the hazelnut int., let us know how you like it, as the local dealer doesn't have one to look at. This dealer won't make a good deal, so I may have to go to Atlanta 150 miles from Augusta. Thanks for any help and advice. RonM

Your question about whether most of the problems have been solved may fire up a debate here.
My 2015 is up to 43k miles and has had none of the electrical and trans issues that I would deem among the most concerning things you see on this forum.
For me and probably many MKC owners, this is likely their first ownership of a computer car- as I might call it- always awake electrically with modem, prox sensor to keyfob: also throttle by wire, robot shifting, programmed lighting schemes, much more than autos of even 3 years ago.
Wow, what could possibly go wrong with such complexity? For many like me, nothing, others have annoying but not critical glitches on occasion, a few have serious car brain problems. Some of this is likely vendor quality issues, some final assembly issues, and some, software issues. Every owner measures their experience on their own sample of the car: again, my experience has been great and I have been able to enjoy the MKC on its own merits.

Interesting that hazelnut interiors are not ordered more often for stock: they do seem to be popular. Or maybe these are the ones moving off the lot first!

So I am a fan that would encourage you to move forward..........

Our 2016 MKC Reserve has had no issues other than a few flats which I attribute to my wife's commute through an industrial area.

I agree with Midnight Cruiser that many MKC owners are having their 1st experience with a "computer car" or at least one significantly more complex than their previous drives. While there are more electronic issues that can go wrong I believe there is also confusion among many of the drivers not understanding the various nuances about such vehicles. I'm not putting down the owners, it's just that newer vehicles are significantly different and it takes a little experience to adjust. Heh, I'm an ME/EE who has had several quite complex vehicles and I had a couple of issues with lighting sequences on ours and finally figured out the problem was me...........
Bottom line is our 16 MKC has exceeded our expectations and has only been back to the dealer once - oil change. It's technically the wife's car but I enjoy driving it on road trips. We looked at many of the same vehicles you mentioned and we're happy with our MKC decision. There ae indeed legit complaints of problems you see in the Forum but you'll see same in competitive Forums.
I would suggest using Lincoln's website to contact a few dealers without visiting since you know what you want. You can easily get a few quotes to compare and I find they deal much better via email vs face to face. Got ours for invoice minus an additional $2K off due to a promotion. Happy hunting!

My MKC is a year old today, a few small glitches ( nothing to really talk about), or freak out about, dealer addressed ALL of them...by and large we have been very happy with this ride, It does HAVE quite an array of complex systems, and I find myself going back to the owners manual to refresh my familiarity of them....pretty impressive auto overall by the numbers, I'll give it a 9 out of a 10... one last mention tho; the all season tires are ok for the 3 seasons, but pretty terrible for winter use, get dedicated winter tires for the winter months, I went with Michelin X Ice< simply awesome traction, best of luck!

My problems started 30 days into ownership of my 2017. Electrical issue took a week to resolve. Then I had a seeping PTU seal (I'm a woman, I think that's what they called it) then they rebuilt my transmission and then finally installed a new transmission-took 3 weeks for that.

Little annoyances have been a dashboard rattle, the fabric on the inside of my leather seats pulled away (they fixed that) the plastic clip in rear cargo area that holds cargo net cracked. They had to replace the entire quarter panel for that little cracked clip. I clean my cappuccino interior regularly because any clothing darker than white gets it filthy. New this week I've been getting a warning that my key fob isn't detected...while I'm driving down the road, with my key fob.

Had car for exactly 6 months although it's been in the shop for a month for various issues.

Not a fan.

Well, I tell you what I'm not a fan off.....too much electronics in ANY brand, MKC included... layer upon layer of electronics throughout the car, when these electronics work as designed it's all great and fun, but what I am most concerned with is having competent techs working on resolving problems and issues within a reasonable amount of ($$ shop$$) time.....it's easier said than done!
In the last 2 days a new electronic PITA started showing up in my MKC.....
Starting the MKC with the remote fob: my house is an easy 100 ft from the garage, when I use the fob to start it up, it responds well....all programming I've done to the heated steering/heated seats (thanks again for the help country guy) works without a flaw....as I walk up to the MKC, it recognizes I am close and turns on it's welcome lights, so far so good.....put my hand on the handle to open.....nothing!!!!! locked out, usually just resting my hand on the door handle with fingers curled around and you feel the "click" and the door is unlocked....for the last two days,it takes a good 15 seconds before it realizes I am trying to open the door....
I did some trouble shooting starting with the fob, battery strength, 96% good, also the fact I can use the fob from anywhere inside my house, weather it's kitchen, office, living room or what have you seems to work, so it's not the fob with a weak battery. I tried to see if the same lock out problem occurs with passenger door; both are responding to the same time duration ( I was trying to isolate weather it's a handle sensor gone/going bad) no difference.
Took it into the dealer and spoke with the shop foreman ( head mechanic)) he checked for ANY updates....nothing...I suggested maybe the modem is acting up and should be re flashed, he says it's a possibility if nothing else is found. I talked to him about a recent modem exchange a bunch of you guys went through, but he says the modems in the 2016 and up have been replaced at factory due to problems with previous modem issues...but he's going to check into it further.
He thinks it "might" be a door handle sensor.....I say back, both doors are acting the same, so are you suggesting both sensors are going bad, he agrees it's highly unlikely....
I suggest we first try and find out more through Lincoln engineering regarding this issue before we start tearing into the MKC...
In the meantime: this morning, same as I always do, fob started from home, walked up to the MKC, lights come on, rest my hand on the door handle, instant response, door unlocks!!!!!!!! Shut it down and lock it and went back to the house and waited around a good 30 minutes and went through the procedure once again, this time I approached the passenger door, instant click and door unlocks!!!....so is this some weird hick up or what? I took a reading off the car battery to check the amount of charge in it.....99% full!
A while back, I went through some weirdness with the cargo lift gate not responding to my foot activation....took it in and they re flashed the system, since then it's been working great.....
I had mentioned to the dealership foreman regarding the length of time the heated seats take to heat up before you can feel them heating, checked for any updates or re flashes, nothing! I took it in and they did some tests on BOTH seats, I was told according to Lincoln engineering the seats are heating up as designed, the problem is the two different systems within the seats; heating and cooling.....so mine do heat up, but man, they take their sweet time to get there!
As I said earlier at the start of this L-O-N-G post, the joys of electronics, rant over!

Yeah they are a little slow to heat up especially compared to German cars. Still not totally sold on the butt AC yet.

....with that said, my 2011 Mustang GTCS came with heated seats....turn them on high and they will burn your butt if you don't lower the temp setting, go figure! LOL:eek

I think the door handle sensors are activated by sensing the heat/temperature change of your hand inside the handle??? I noticed that if you have the sensor in your pocket when washing the car spraying the hose on the door handle activates the door locks. I also noticed that the auto-lock area on the door handle (where the grooves are) are slow to recognize your touch when its cold. Perhaps the colder weather is causing some problem.

My wife has a 2016 MKC, Platinum white with the hazelnut interior. It looks great. Just different enough to get away from the stark black & dark enough to not worry about showing dirt. At first, my wife was a bit concerned that it might look "too masculine" for her, but now she loves it.
We have had the car about 15 months, 15,000 miles & absolutely no problems. So I'm not sure if the earlier issues were all fixed or if we just got lucky, but I would not hesitate to recommend the MKC.

I also had a Ford Explorer in white with the dark brown/black two tone interior & got a lot of compliments on the color (I now drive a Volvo XC60).
Good luck with your purchase.

I've had a few instances where the door does not always unlock instantly when I grab it regardless of whether the car was remotely started or not. Same thing with locking the door...sometimes it locks the first time I touch the handle and other times I have to touch it a couple of times. I just chalked it up to not touching the handle in the 'sweet' spot all the time.

I noticed the same thing when spraying water on the door handles while washing the car as well as the locking not working as quickly when it gets colder.

Happy new owner

I got a 2017 Reserve about 3weeks ago. Everything works fine except for the audio does not turn on 100% of the time. It failed 3 times out of 50 starts and is an intermittent issue that I hope resolves easily. When it comes on it works great. Easy to learn, great sound but I have not tried with any USBs yet.
Other than that, great ride, quiet, comfortable.
As far as the complexity of new vehicles, I agree. In fact it was part of my decision to lease instead of purchase. I thought that by the end of this lease a lot of the new tech issues and many geared transmissions issues not just specific to Lincoln\Ford but all tech cars would get worked out before a purchase.

Jaimm, do you have the THX system? Is your radio on, but the sound is very faint in the background? Some of us with THX in our cars are having an issue with the amp needing to be replaced. Mine has been diagnosed as such, but the amp is on backorder until the end of Jan .

See the last couple pages of this thread for more info...

Kmccart, no my Reserve window sticker does not mention it, nor do I have tech package. My issue is definitely an on or off thing. Several times when my audio has failed I have noticed in the touchscreen view that has NAV on left side, audio on upper right and add device in lower right, my audio is stuck "loading" for the duration of my trip. When I get back in for my return trip everything is fine.
I don't know what all is loading, but I am going to have the service tech start there. Maybe a modem or faulty antenna issue. Because it is intermittent it is a royal PITA.
Thanks for your help.
