I just bought a new AWD Reserve with the 2.3L engine. I had a situation on the interstate where I had to pass a vehicle. I speeded up to pass, and discovered my vehicle is governed at 80mph. I almost had a car run over the top of me before I could get back into my lane. Are all these MKC's governed and if so can it be raised?

I have pretty much your car except in black and 20" wheels and I have more than once reached triple digits on my speedometer. I don't think our cars are governed at 80mph.. I have never heard of private-use cars being governed at that low of a speed.

There should not be a governor on it. Check all the options you could have some thing set that governs the speed. If memory serves I think there is a way to set a speed limit if you let someone use the car.

Thanks for the reply. I checked everything last night and discovered the MY KEY has a top speed setting. I was able to turn it off and now I'm all set. If all else fails, read the manual!

In Valet mode it limits certain parameters including speed to curb car jockeys from speeding on a joy ride!

I'm sure she'll do 130 pretty easy.:laugh
There may be some speed limiting over 100 mph depending on the speed rating of the tires - Remember Ford has a lot of lawyers.

I have never heard of any vehicles being governed before. Is that even possible? If yes, then I bet a huge percentage of all vehicles on the road would have been modified so in order to create a safer experience on the road. However, since you have just bought it, it is best to check with your dealership company. Explain to them the encounter that you had experienced which could have cost your life.

Most cars sold in the USA have speed limiters on them typically 130 mph. Even if one goes to Europe to buy and one and ship it back to the US, will have the speed limiter on it. Same with the bumper and headlights, they need to meet US Specs or your car gets most likely crushed. Yes they are dicks that way.
