I would not know what actually will be updated on the versions. I assume 5 to 7 would have more upgraded information based on the number skip....and it may depend on where you live. Is it worth $85? I would say not sure ;for the reasons stated.

I asked my dealer about that. He asked are you having any issues, I said no, he said I wouldn't mess with it. I agreed with him.

The thing to remember is that ALL maps are inherently out of date simply because it takes time to apply changes. If you live or travel where a lot of construction or reconstruction is happening, you will find the maps and pois increasingly useless. Even my garmin, which gets free updates at least every 3 months, can be a year or more out of date in new residential areas.

I don't expect to ever choose to buy an update for a car's gps. Garmin's updates are free, and Inrix traffic on my iphone seems to be better at letting me see traffic problems ahead than waze.

Hi all. new user here. Trying to do teh updates manually. Got hold of all A7 files from a guy and put on a SD card. Sync says something like invalid card. Ford parts guy (not same guy as source) said if i bouhgt a card from them it would be simpel plug and play , more like shrug and pray. Anyone tried this way with any sucess?

I am guessing there must be some sort of encoding in the "real" SD card that keeps most folks from just copying the files to another SD card. I got an A7 SD card off E-Bay for around $50. Watch the prices there and you should be able to get one in the $50-$60 range. Better than the $150 the Navi people want.

It is a simple plug and play. I have one Lincoln with the A7 SD card and an older one with the A5 SD card. If I am going on a trip where I don't know the road, I just swap the new one into the car I am going to drive on that trip, so I have newer data. I have flip-flopped them back and forth 5 or 6 times in the last 6 months since I got the A7 SD card. Never a problem.

If you have a newer A7 card, why would you flip back and forth?

Sorry, probably wasn't clear. I have two different Lincoln Cars (MKC and MKZ), one with an A7 and one with an A5. When going into unknown areas (or long trips) where I know I will be using the nav alot, I usually put the A7 in whatever car I am driving that day.
