Not sure if anyone else noticed this bit of weirdness, but on my 2016 MKC, the stock cup holders chill a cup of coffee in record time!
It looks like these cup holders were not designed with keeping a hot drink, well, hot! So I tried it with a BIC lighter....within 4 minutes, the butane got so cold it would not ignite, then I dropped in my house keys in there, (being metal) and they were ice cold!
Maybe they were designed to keep cold drinks, cold!...I use a thermos insulated coffee cup, designed to keep hot beverages, HOT...but that does not help any!
There seems to be no insulation around the cup holders on their outside....I looked in my owners manual and there is no real mention other than to point out, they are cup holders!
For comparison; cup holders in the Mustang stay warm based on interior cabin temps, same with my truck, which is why I find this weird.Anyone else notice this?

I do know that on mine the storage bin is somewhat intertwined and backs up to the cup holders, and that bin gets quite cold, I am assuming it transfers to the cup holders, I also note that the bin for the sunglasses work the same, I will leave that bin open when I store my sunglasses in there when the temps get to extreme.

I noticed no difference from my 2011 Ford Edge or my 2014 Jeep regarding temterature retention. For '16 I think the cup holders were revised in the console.. I think they hold the cups pretty well which is what they are suppose to do..

I wasn't expecting a cup holder to do anything else other than hold a cup :) They aren't cup warmers or cup coolers after all LOL

Lol agreed country guy.....BUT logic dictates that there is a 50% chance of using them for a hot coffee hehehehe... so why not add some insulation to reduce the rapid cold they pick up during driving...
Hands down, I love how they hold a cup, very smart design....that cup is not about to move once inserted!

Yes they do work very well. And they are good for holding things other than cups too LOL

My point of course being....they should be neither, but due to lack of any insulation, a cup of coffee chills down fast.....for those that live in warmer climates, this would not be an issue!
