Can't find anything on here about this, so sorry in advance if I missed the post. I'm having an issue where the welcome mat and approach lighting is going on and off constantly if the key fob is within communication distance to the car. So, if the car is in the garage and the keys are in the kitchen, the lights sometimes continually go on and off. This doesn't always happen, but I noticed it this morning and apparently it had been doing this all night long. I suspect that this happened a few months ago as well as my battery was completely depleted and the dealer was unable to find the cause.

You're right; that's probably the cause of your previous battery issue. All I can suggest is keeping the fob at a greater distance away from and car and/or call the dealership and let them know what's going on. We have to be almost on top of our car for the welcome lighting to work, so we don't have the problem.

Either in the owners manual or more likely in the Lincoln You Tube Videos where it talks about leaving your fob too close to the car, I recall it saying that after about 20 minutes of this communications, the car is smart enough to realize the problem and will shut off communications on it's own until you use the car again. Of course that would mean that the Welcome Lighting won't work. After having similar problems, since my car is in a locked garage I just keep the car unlocked in which case there is no communications between the fob and car. The Welcome lighting only works if the car is locked.

Thanks for the info. I'll search YouTube for the 20 minute reference and bring it up with the dealer during my service appointment in October. I plan on having them check the Sirius radio cutout and also the cooled seat issue. Doesn't seem to get very cool at all.

Maybe you just keep your keys somewhere really close to where the car is parked. Maybe you can just move your keys further away from your car. I would try doing a little experiment where you try to figure out exactly when your welcome mats turn on related to where your keys are in the house.

I had the battery issue also and it was two-fold. One of the sets of keys was on a hook just inside the door from the garage to the house. That caused a problem. The second was the set of keys in my pocket. As I walked past the garage to go to the family room, it was close enough for the keys in my pocket to set it off. I also found out that when I was in the kitchen (directly over the garage), it was enough for the keys in my pocket to set it off.

After having a dead battery a couple times, the service manager suggested that I not lock the car when it is in the garage. I had only started locking the car in the garage to get the mirrors to fold in an give me more walking room. He suggested I just hit the button in the car to fold the mirrors in - rather than locking it. Problem solved. Unless it is locked, it doesn't try to detect the fob approaching.

I posted this in January...

My MKC went completely dead after a week of non-use. It would not jump start. I ended up putting a slow charger on the battery. After 15 hours of charging, it worked fine.

I found out the welcome lighting system caused the drain down. Our key fob storage for the car is about 12 feet from the vehicle. The on-going communication between the fob and car caused the problem. Lincoln has a special service message on this. The cure is to turn off the welcome approach lighting on the dash panel or relocate the key fob farther away from the car. I turned it off. The welcome lighting now only works when I hit the unlock button on the fob or put my hand on the external door handle.

Had I been using the MKC more often than once per week, there would have been no excessive drain down.

I have not had a battery problem since January.

Has anyone else experienced their welcome lighting not work? My welcome mat only displays if I physically hit the unlock button on my key fob. When the car is locked, I can walk up right next to it, but it won't automatically sense my proximity and activate the welcome lighting. Anyone else experience this and have a solution? (My welcome lighting option is checked in the dash settings.) Thanks.

Yes Dan, I would estimate that the same thing occurs on my car but only about 3 out of 10 times. It's inconsistent...a glitch, but as you note, it always works when you unlock the car via the fob. Had the dealer look at it, they did a master re-set, it worked for awhile, then went back to working correctly about 70% of the time. I'll just live with it for now.

mine come on ( I always lock it) when I am at 10' away...my house is a good 120 ft away from the garage so I never had an issue....move the keys further away and do a lil experiment and see if it still comes on or stays off ....before AND after you move them further away!

I just got a new 2016 MKC. I have never seen the welcome mat lighting come on its own. Always have to hit the unlock button on the remote. Is this just one of those things that doesn't work reliably or should I bring it up with the dealer? Since the car is new it may be many months before I have to bring it in for an oil change and I don't really feel like bringing it in just for this.

There was an issue with the early build 2015's where it didn't work as designed and the dealers had to perform a reset (happened with mine and it has worked fine ever since), but I didn't think it was still an issue by the time the 2016's came out.

If you have never seen it, it might be that it is disabled in the set-up menus.

It is under...

"I have already checked that, toggled it on and off etc, the only time I have seen it work is by hitting the unlock button on the remote.
For comparison sake; I (fob) start my MKC...I always lock the car before I go in for the night....as I approach the MKC,( it's started by this time) within around 10 feet, my welcome light comes ON,hand on door handle, it auto unlocks the car, I get it, and the welcome lights goes out along with interior lights. hope this helps you in some way!
Try testing it as I described; lock it as you get where you're going....before you leave FOB start the "C" ( one press on lock followed by 2 presses on first button down) (2X) and then see what happens when you walk up to your car....the welcome light should come on @ about 10' away, once you get in the "C" it should go out along with interior lights.

The welcome mat lighting comes on when I am about 10 feet from the car, provided the doors are locked of course and regardless of whether the car is started or not.
