I know we all love our MKCs. But with short test drives, you really do not get the full experience of what drawbacks might be. I thought I would start this thread to just find the disappointing or lack of features that you are missing now that you own an MKC. Please lets not make this a bash the MKC, but more a constructive critique and maybe someone will already have come up with a solution or aftermarket way of correcting it.

So here is mine:

1. The cargo area is too small to place a golf bag in the back without removing my driver. I realize it is a compact SUV, but after my trailer wiring experience of pulling the cargo sides out, Lincoln did waste some space that with just better cargo side panels could have made it roomy enough.

2. The battery box, in trying to wire the trailer lighting I tried to remove the battery. I could not do it and I am a moderately experienced handy man. I even removed the weatherstripping trying to create space to pull it out. The box is too small to get a hand hold to remove the battery. It is so difficult that this will be the first vehicle I will take to the shop to have the battery replaced. Is there a trick that I am missing?

3. They went to so much work on the key fob, to keep me from having to remove it to use, that I wish they had included the feature of locking when you walk away. I had that on a rental car in Europe as well as my son's BMW. Really neat feature.

Those are the main disappointments I have discovered so far!

The doors can be locked by just touching any of the door handles. Some of the features that I had on my Lexus that I miss on the MKC are:

1. Headlight washers
2. auto lowering outside mirrors when in reverse
3. both outside mirrors auto dimming
4. passenger side memory seat
5. auto cornering headlights

1.) Lack of storage, no place for my phone to sit!
2.) Seat bottoms too short, the Escapes have addressed this and lengthened them
3.) Seat does not go back far enough when driving- need another 1"-2" more
4.) Panoramic sunroof; remove the black bar between the front (moving), and the rear (fixed). MKX does not have it
---There might be more, but these come to mind first (in addition to what has been posted :) )

The only issue with ours is one that was readily apparent during the test drives. It's small. We liked it enough anyway, and we still do, but the cargo area is tight and legroom is lacking in all positions. Rear passengers suffer the most.

What I don't get is my daughter bought a new CX-5 last year, and it's the same size outside but seems to be an entire class size bigger inside. Seats are more comfortable too. Other than the HP difference, the Mazda is an all around better car.

We traded in our 2015 Audi Q3 for the MKC and compared to the Q3, the MKC is huge.

I find the seats to be very comfortable and rear leg room is good. The only issue is the leg room is tight on the rear driver side when the person gets in before the driver has started the car and the driver seat has moved into the preset position.

We really have no disappointments with our MKC.. In fact we probably have had more pleasant surprises than complaints.. We are coming up on a year of ownership with no issues... Planning on a big trip out west next month!

There is material there going back to introduction of the MKC.

My reaction to press reviews criticisms remain quite the same:
"1. storage- this is the same debate as the adequacy of the back seat room-it is big enough if it is big enough for your purposes. The MKC slots above some CUV's in size, and less than others. To criticize on this basis seems silly.
2. Boring drive- highly subjective - I have read perhaps 20 reviews and most praise it as a nimble Lincoln (faint praise), most as class competitive. And many like the lux ride quality you can dial in with CCD while avoiding the boatiness of the Lexus 350
3.Fuel economy. Until there is a long term test, I can only see that reviewers necessarily spend more miles booting the MKC around (more fun, right?), than feathering the right pedal to probe the real world mileage. I have seen mid 28's on my 2.0L when concentrating on smoothness. So mid pack performance and mid pack mileage sounds like a victory from my point of view.
4. Navigation rendering. Even if true, I find this a very granular point to differentiate vehicles. Unless it drags on the system real world functionality, I don't care if it pops like a smartphone.
5.added to original thread- Lighting- yes I think the trunk and console well need better lighting. And I would prefer all LED exterior lighting as well.
6. Transmission-added to original thread list. Almost every review dinged LMC for softish and lagging gear changes. I agree here except that only the S mode shift points need to be crisped up-and hold each gear to the redline.
7. Interior material quality- added. Many reviews did not think dash and door material quality was on par with the other lux brands. While I would have liked something different for the shift buttons, I find my passengers reactions quite positive.
8. Roof rack- I have a factory recommendation from Yakima for clips and towers to remount my bars and Rocket Box to the MKC-WITH a Vista roof. Load limit is definitely low-125 Lbs. Will be mounting this up this weekend and promise to open up a thread on my findings.
# Brand.. Some reviewers have the gall to come out and take points away from the MKC solely because it is a Lincoln. Shame. Perpetuating Tutonic brands as superior just because they are programmed to salivate at hard seating, sterile interiors, jarring rides and excess Euro cost, is flat unfair.
Net. Net. We hope the reviews drive the unbiased to the LMC showrooms where the car will speak for itself."

Since the nearly two years and 35,000 miles since my comments above, I would add:
1. simpler menu to get to CCD adjustments- drilling 4 selections down is silly
2. paddle shifting gear changes need to be at least 2x faster
3. gas tank about 2 gallons too small

Other niggles are small and may have even been corrected. Like better lighting in the console under armrest bin, backup path curves showing on backup cam, and ambient lights that don't dim enough.
I will leave it to others to fill in all the infotainment/communication/synchronization wish list.

I would agree on a larger fuel tank (partially addressed by MY 2017). My 2016 does have backup path curves on the backup cam (may be part of the tech package). Regarding the transmission compared to our 2014 Jeep Wrangler and the former 2011 Ford Edge, the MKC shifts like a F1 racer. I would like a digital speed display (again addressed for MY 2017). Regarding fuel economy, we averaged just under 28 MPG on a recent trip from Chicago to Maryland and back with the 2.3 and the A/C blasting! Next stop Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons! Again we are pretty pleased overall.

Only owned it for a month now and my only disappointment is the quality of the sun visor arm, a higher quality material is needed, it seems like it will easily break with frequent use. I hope it does not I guess I shall see. Larger fuel tank would be nice too 5 gals larger would be just about right. Other than that been pretty happy with it over all.

I did notice a number of complaints people have made and many of them seem have been to corrected by 16 and 17 or were included in option packages they may not have. I did find the 2.0 AWD slow to shift and it felt under powered so I drove the 2.3 AWD and that corrected that problem. IMHO they should not even sell the 2.0 MKC.

Overall it meets my needs but I don't have kids or a need to carry large or bulky thinks on a regular basis either but IMHO comments on lack of room for kids and large things are very valid and the MKC is a poor choice for those who do have that need.

Anyone looking for crossbars can go to the Thule website, they make the ones they sell through Lincoln Accessories and you will save a bunch of money. I think it is like $220 for a set of crossbars that will attach to the existing rails over the sunroof.

That is my only disappointment. I have to leave the right rear seat upright so I can squeeze my golf bag diagonally in the cargo area. If I had a full size staff bag, I'd have to fold down the seat.

When I had the Edge and the MKC side by side at the dealership, I knew that I wouldn't be driving my foursome to the course in the MKC. Three... no problem. Other than that, I have no complaints.

You nailed my exact sentiments:
Adding a few more gripes of my own....Rear cargo lighting can vastly be improved...the real problem is the light is very low to the floor, one bag of groceries close to it and it becomes totally dark.
Paddle shifters need to be stationary to the steering column NOT twirling around all over the place...
Fully agree with the smallish fuel tank....sure would be ideal if it would accommodate another 4/5 galls of fuel.

The MKC fits our bill perfectly, no young kids to stuff into the back...guests that have come up to our cottage with us found the rear seating area roomy enough...maybe the fact they are sub 6 footers had something to do with it. regarding cargo space, I have read a few complaints that it is smallish....however I also notice few seem to mention the vast roominess when the second row seats are lowered down .....I have stuffed HUGE amounts of groceries with room to spare as long as the seats are lowered! for an average sized grocery shopping run for two people, I find it sufficient enough.
Regarding storing nav info addresses, unless it's done through voice, it's quite arduous to manually store info as you desire to call it ( wife's work...daughter's office)....your only way to save an address manually is AS found address, then save, then go back and edit it to suit your whim....Garmin has this down to a logical approach, you save it as you like, period.
By and large, our MKC is what we expected it to be, it's pretty robust, quite comfortable, full featured to meet my needs, potent enough engine (2.3 L ) and a blast to drive in sport mode...gas mileage is good ( I average 27/28 miles per gall unless I decide to drive it in sport, then that goes out the window!
Awesome ride overall.

Only minor issues. This is my wife's daily driver & she loves everything about it. I find the following:
-Driver's seat could use another inch or so of legroom
-Gas tank is definitely too small. Should hold another 3-4 gallons.
-Sound of tailgate closing sounds cheap. Should sound like the doors closing.
-Handling is a little too soft

I have no issue with the fuel tank size...seems to be very close to what was on my Toyota Venza, Solara and Lexus IS250. I've been on 2 long road trips and get about 550-600 km on a tank. My last trip averaged around 30 mpg with the 2.3litre and driving 110 kmh.

Here's my list:

1. OE Latitude tires are awful. They are the worst tramlining tires I've ever had.
2. Wind/road noise from pano roof.
3. Ergonomics: front seats too small, dead pedal way too far forward in comparison to the gas/brake pedal.
4. I love THXII, but it sounded better in my '10 MKZ. I've never been a fan of the main sound stage coming from the dash/bouncing off the windshield. MKZ also had better bass response.
5. Gas tank is too small for daily commuting.

That's about it. Item #1 can be addressed with new tires (I hope). I'll have the dealer look at #2 -- as it appears the right side of the rear/fixed glass sits higher than the left. I can live with the other items -- as I really like it otherwise.

All the things that I listed pale in comparison to the stupidity of the paddle shifters not being permanently attached to the steering housing.....if you are driving in "sport " mode and you need a quick shift out of first while navigating a slight curvy corner, you'll understand EXACTLY what I mean...I've driven enough cars with paddle shifters to know better...this is the ONLY car I drove with paddle shifters "twirling around" instead of fixed, totally idiotic!
Rant over!

I totally agree! The current paddle shifters are a joke, and so is the cruise control as well. When weather gets really bad, the adaptive cruise control shuts off. Then in such bad weather condition while driving, you would have to go through that BS layers of F&*(%&g menu to go to normal cruise control. My reaction when going through that process every time is like this: "Ain't that a b*$%^ you....

For #1, I disagree! I've bought myself another whole set, and I drive through snow.

One more thing to add to my list is the position of the cruise control buttons. I always have to look at them to ensure I press the right button. I much prefer a separate stalk on the steering column like on my Toyotas and Lexus.

Lots of great insight into the MKC

I would like to add one more!

I expected this since it is a Ford product, but why can't the cruise control remain on. I don't mind the location as much as some, but it annoys me to have to turn it on, before I can set it.
