You are aware the top picture is the 4-cylinder? There is more side clearance on the V6.
I am aware, I'm also aware that the Edge is a wider vehicle than the Escape.

I'm sticking with a V6 not fitting. Look at the platforms we're dealing with here.

The Escape/MKC are on the C1 platform which is shared with these:

2003 – Ford Focus C-Max (C214), first European vehicle on this platform
2004 – Mazda Axela/Mazda 3 (BK)
2005 – Ford Focus (International) (C307), (Note: the Ford Focus (North America) continues on the C170 platform through 2010)
2004 – Volvo S40 (P11)
2004 – Volvo V50 (P12)
2006 – Mazda Premacy/Mazda 5 (BK) (and related Ford i-Max)
2006 – Volvo C70 (P15)
2007 – Volvo C30 (P14)
2008 – Ford Kuga (C394)
2008 – Mazda Biante
2012 – Volvo V40 (Note: modified platform)[2]
2014 – Lincoln MKC

The largest engine shoehorned into this platoform has been volvos use of an I5... however that is a much thinner engine than a V6. Its not a problem of width for the V6 but a problem of depth.

The Edge rides on the CD3 platform, shared with:

2002–2008 Mazda 6 (GG)
2006–present Besturn B70
2006–2012 Ford Fusion (CD338)
2006–2012 Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ (CD378)
2006–2011 Mercury Milan (CD338)
2007–present Mazda CX-9
2007–present Ford Edge crossover SUV (U387)
2007–present Lincoln MKX crossover SUV (U388)
2008–2012 Mazda 6 (GH) (Note: modified platform)
2009–present Besturn B50

CD3 is being phased out for CD4 as we speak, the new fusion/MKZ are already on CD4 and so will the next edge...

I mean really if you have any appreciation for fine design the NX has to be out. Its brutish and vulgar when compared with the elegant MKC... Sorry Lexus you just WHIFFED...

absolutely, bad design, bad proportion, bad confluence of body lines, looks like 10 different people worked on it.
The cow catcher grill would look good on a locomotive.
The MKC simply looks elegant compared to the nx
