Yellow wrench warning/code reader

I’ve been having the situation of the (yellow) warning wrench light coming on with “see manual” message on dashboard after getting into the car and starting it up while still in park. First time this happened and every time since (this is an intermittent problem) I will not drive the cartake it out of park and will just turn the car off. Wait a sec and start the car up and no light/message appears.
I understand with a Lincoln, the wrench means powertrain.

took it back to dealership since powertrain is still under warranty and they can’t find any codes. Keep in mind when they tried the light wasnt on.

I asked what should I do and they said the next time the light comes on to drive with it on come straight to them with the light still on. Good idea in theory, but not practical. The service advisor acknowledged it could take it to a autozone/pep boys where they also have a code reader and the code is all he needs to move forward. Totally get this.

a coworker of mine has a code reader and I’m curious if the reader can be plugged in while the car is running (and in park)?
because once I turn the car off, plug in code reader and then turn car back on, I can’t guarantee the light with come back on as it’s never come back on twice in a row.

Any advice?
Did you find out what was the problem when you started it wrench on when you shut it off wrench disappears. I sm have the same problem. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
