Questions for all overall on shifting. First my vehicle has/had the push button gear change roughness since I had it. Much worse first weeks now just shudders like it's going to stall briefly before it finally "catches" the gear. It also comes and goes where I thought it went away completely a few times. Also notice a "different" shift in slow gear (around 25-30mph range) and this also comes and goes with the gear problem it seems.

I am coming off Cadillac SRX which I was driving again this weekend(we still have it) and I have to say overall the srx shifts much smoother than my MKC. I don't know that this is actually a problem or just a different type of engine and shift but something I noticed
Does anyone feel like their MKC shifts differently? It's not necessarily a harsh shift but a more noticeable shift whereas my Cadillac shifts were not noticeable unless I punched it hard.

IMO that kind of shifting is not normal but chances are some dealers will agree that it is normal unless a ton of people complain.

I brought my MKC in to my dealer for the shifting concern. Lazy shift from 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th. The performed the TSB to replace the torque convertor. Issue remains, in fact seems to have gotten worse. Went in again today to have the satellite radio antenna replaced and mentioned the shifting concern again. Well my dealer contacted Lincoln technical assistance center and was told to replace the transmission valve body for this concern. Parts now on order. I asked how long to get the parts, I was advised they should be in early next week. So back to the dealer we go again. This time to have the transmission worked on, again.

Are you guys referring to turbo lag? I experience that at low speeds, it's like the gears don't shift quickly enough and there is some pull back.

I wasn't referring to turbo lag. My transmission started shifting very harshly. 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th were the worst. If I accelerated for a short time and let off the gas, there was a very hard
bang coming from the vehicle. Almost like I was hit from behind. If I accelerated hard and kept going thru the gears by the time it shifted into 5th the bang noise got worse. First the dealer thought it was the TSB for the torque convertor, so it was replaced. Well that made it worse. The dealer contacted technical assistance and with half an hour they were told to replace the transmission valve body and one would be at the dealer within 2 working days.

This alone told be this is a common problem otherwise wouldn't I have to wait 2 weeks for the part?
I had the part replaced and now it's back to what it was when new. But for how long.
This issue started 3 months after delivery. Now going on 8 months old.

The "bang". That's how I would describe my push button shift problem. However, that went away. The "bang only happeneded a handful of times in the first few weeks I had the car then it morphed into just a small shudder/stall when switching back and forth from D to R and R to D mostly. Sometimes a slight shudder when I hit P after driving into garage. This seems to get worse and then almost go away sometimes.

My low speed shifting problem might be a turbo lag. It's a very harsh shift and will literally sling shot me forward in my seat. I had a 5 speed turbo eagle talon tsi ( loved that car most fun to drive rocket!) and it does seem a little like that. But then again not really... This problem also seems to be worse at times and sometimes the shift is not so harsh.

Lately the low speed shifting has been pretty prevalent so I mentioned to my dealer again. They said there was a software update they would apply. My car is going in soon so I'll let everyone know what happens.

I'm having this issue now as well. Downshifting sometime results in a bang and a jolt. Sometimes shifting into park, drive or reverse doesn't "catch" and I have to shift in and out again.

Add it up to the multitude of problems I've had with this car and I'm ready to dump it. Still have 1.5 years on the lease though.

Been in contact with FoMoCo and opened a case file.

Bang and jolt

I purchased my 2016 MKC new this past June. Seems my expectations for my first luxury vehicle were a little too high. Sometimes I think it's me. Maybe I just don't know how to handle the turbo.

I also experience this unsettling bang and jolt issue at low speeds with light pressure on the gas, like when I am crawling along in rush hour traffic, or slowly accelerating from a stop. The bang and jolt sensation is not unlike being bumped from behind. Dealer could not duplicate the problem. I also get the shifting hiccups between 1st and 2nd and/or 2nd and 3rd. Yesterday, in slow traffic, the tach needle was fluttering between 1st and 2nd.

If I learn anything more about these issues I will share. Good luck everyone! If your dealer is anything like mine, you will need it.

Be persistent with your dealer. Nothing should be banging, clunking or jolting. Nothing.

Anyone has the TSB number on this issue yet?....I looked in this Canadian recall site (Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database) but came up empty-handed...... If anyone knows that this TSB # is, please post, thanks all!

Ok, I started a different thread on this and got no real replies. Anyone on here still have their MKC and still having issues? If it was fixed, what finally fixed it? I've been dealing with this for about 6-8 months. Did a transmission fluid change. No difference. I haven't been into the dealer b/c I'm out of warranty. I drive over 120 miles a day on my commute so even though I bought my MKC in October 2015, I already have 81,000 miles on it. Mine's much more noticeable when the engine is cold. And sometimes, it's not noticeable at all if I give it more throttle.

I just want to arm myself and prepare if I have to go to the dealer. I want to make sure they try the cheap stuff before they make me shell out for a new trans.

This is the second automatic trans/small turbo car I've owned and both have had issues. I may just go back to buying disposeable econoboxes... This is really making me start to loathe what has otherwise been an outstanding car.

I know of the vehicle is in "Sport" mode it will shift harder - I assume the dealer applied all powertrain related TSBs? There may have been a running change on the transmission assembly (hardware) to improve shift quality after the build date of your vehicle - You could dig through the Ford parts catalog and see if there are any multiple entries of the same part with different dates.

No, this happens regardless of which mode the trans is in. As a matter of fact, it shifts smoother in sport than in normal or comfort modes. The dealer hasn't touched the car yet, in dealing with this issue. It didn't pop up until I was out of warranty so I wanted to exhaust cheap options first.

At 81k miles, if not the dealer, then see an indy that has a tranny specialist. probably just needs a TCU update or upgrade.

Wouldn't dealer alone be able to do that? I really think it's something like that because it's not...regular. I mean, it happens daily. But it doesn't always happen under the exact same conditions and the problems vary. Sometimes, its just a delayed shift. Sometimes it's a thunk from the torque converter. Guess I'll never know until I take it in.

Before we even pick drive it around the block. The dealers answer? She has thick pants on. We both have heated seats in our current (my now former) cars. Next. Driving it the 300 miles home we noticed kicking when shifting. Especially when gradually accelerating. It’s disconcerting for a “new”car. For us anyway. So it's interesting to hear that here. Sometimes quite profoundly. I decided against a Hyundai Tucson Limited Ultimate for this car because people said it had the same problems. I figured transmissions would have gottten better since I got one of the first fully electric ones in a 1996 Lexus GS300- man I loved that car.

Our problem sounds similar to others here. If you experienced this, can you expound on what you experienced, what you talked about with the dealer and what you learned? Anything I can do to push a typical reluctant dealer to make the change. It's a CPO, but it would have been a (slightly) early lease return which is often a red flag, although they also were probably hitting their mileage limit (we have it at 35k). Just picked it up in Houston and we live in Dallas, so we can go to a local Lincoln but not the original so easy. What did you experience and what did you drive?

This is also mostly about shifting. Anyone got that info too?

My last two Ford Escapes had heated seats that got hotter a lot faster than my '17 Reserve does. Somewhere I read or heard that the MKC seats are slower and cooler because they also have a cooling option. Don't really know if that's the reason or not.

I haven't experienced any issues with shifting at 17,500 km.

With the Reserve model, the seats are both heated and cooled so don't have heating elements in the seat. The seat heating/cooling operates like a central HVAC system so it will take a couple of minutes before the seats warm up. In cold weather I use the remote start and let the MKC run (and warm up a bit inside) while I put on my coat and footwear. After a few minutes I find I am reducing the seat heat to low. Slow seat heating is the price you pay for having the cooling option!
